Dutch & Dutch 8c

I would def be torn with these - a clean minimal system, with dsp built into speakers sounds really really good.
But how quickly would I become bored for lack of parameters to adjust. (And buttons to press).
Luckily too dear for me at the moment, but if that changes I’d have to take a look at these - especially as there is an official dealer in liverpool, just across the river Mersey from my home on The Wirral

About 6 months ago, I purchased a pair of KEF LS50 Wireless. There are no other electronics in the room and the speakers utilize only an ethernet cable.

I thought I would miss the hobby aspects with these speakers but they have turned my entire audio world upside down. The loss of tweaking/parameters aspects of hifi are outweighed by the fidelity.

I’ve remarked about this in the forum before but the KEF LS50W have convinced me that crossovers should not be between an amp and a speaker driver.

When budget allows, I will likely move to the Dutch & Dutch.

They don’t have crossovers?

They have electronic DSP crossovers according to Kef’s literature.

Yeah I’m doing the electronic crossover thing here in my main speakers, though I also play with passive crossovers in other speakers, they have more “art” or “craft”, but it’s very easy to get passive crossovers very wrong by just following the science IMHO

Have any Dutch & Dutch owners tried feeding a vinyl analogue signal to the 8Cs? I’m a 100% digital guy now, but I’m considering adding a decent turntable to my system someday. Interested in buying a pair of 8Cs after buying a home later this year.

I’m waiting for them to be Roon ready so i can use the AES ports for vinyl. I don’t want to get a preamp.

Hessel, MI , I can’t believe this has come up.
I first went up there around 1970. My parents knew the Seiberling daughter. My father was best man at John Shaw’s wedding, he married Julie, one of the daughters. I went back about 1981 and spent the next twenty summers up there working on the buildings on Long Island. The one with the blockhouse at the west entrance.

Amazing. It’s hard to believe how many of this particular group of music hobbyists are familiar with the UP of Michigan and especially the part east of the bridge. The current high water levels have a lot of the shoreline low lying areas around there swamped

My sister in law used to own property on Drummond Island.

That’s crazy. From the early '50’s until the mid '60’s my grandfather used to have a bush pilot fly him and a couple friends over to Drummond to fish. They usually had to do repairs to the cabin from the bears raising cane.

Reviving this one as I might now have the funds (nasty divorce coming up, one needs to conceal some assets and anything that looks like an US$ bill! Ha) for an office system.

Plan would be a very modest, very simple digital setup. Was toying with the idea of a pair of Kii Threes or a pair of D&Ds, connected just to a modest, DAC-less Lumin U1 Mini streamer. Do you guys think the latter (Martijn’s) would really be up to the task and beat the Germans on SQ?

doesn’t seem like the detail you’d want to post on a public forum

Ha! Don’t worry mate we are on really good terms, I believe she’ll ‘let me’ purchase something nice for my new place.

Thought 8C’s + existing streamer could perhaps get to sound really well (after adjustments) in a small loft whilst not costing a fortune.

David with HiFi Knights ended up running the same setup (D&D + U1 Mini) in his review of the D&D’s.

Thanks dawkinsj!

Feeding the D&D with AES EBU is what they are built for, synergy is then not the problem, I am just afraid that volume control is cumbersome. You may want to check how you want to control volume.

The Kiis are part Belgium, Belgium (mastermind Bruno Putzey) part Dutch, part Thailand (nCore amps and DSP) part German (speaker assembly). But Bruno Putzey has the best solution to digital volume control.

And you can expand the bass of the Kiis Later with their bass module.

Optically and from a sound concept and ingenuity the D&D are a winner to me, especially because they are built for close wall placement, so if it’s going to be a smaller listening room for you, the D&D are really good.

I think that because the D&D are “studio monitors” they would be excellent in a small room or nearfield. They are really an amazing solution and really disappear in the room quite easily. I have had mine for maybe 6 months now and really love them.

Is it possible to integrate the 8cs into a 5.1 system as the front L/R channels?
