ENO/MUON Ethernet Filters for Streaming Audio

Cables don’t matter, switches don’t matter, FO is a waste of time.

A well played round of golf in the morning makes the system sound glorious like never heard before!

:golfing_man: The system already sounded better tonight. Are Massive and Furutech NCF socket/plate still doing break in? Its probably all in my head (just over 500 hours on both I think).

I put in the order for Shunyata Omega ethernet, and it is official that on my streaming side the cable vs gear cost ratio is 2+ to 1 now. This is the way in my system as I know these Shunyata digital cables make as much improvement as any gear in my system.

I love the potential gear upgrade in in future, and I do not need to worry about cables anymore. :man_dancing: :wine_glass:

Sure

Well, I am not saying this will be my last cable change ever.

It seems like my cable to gear ratio is around one to one. But that is true only because of a few expensive components that only need like four to six cables each. I am glad I am not into that fuse thing, ack!

Resistance is futile.

You will be assimilated.

Last time I checked, AC fuses don’t have much of a resistance at all

This looks like what the doc has ordered, SFP, external clock input, isolated ethernet to go with the ENO:

The custom build PCB is the only one I’ve seen other than Melco

I would also look at TeraDak. The switch is similar to a Melco S100 with an upgraded OCXO clock and separate LPS.
I think it’s better than my Melco Switch.

Is this a reduce-sized SW-10?

The video explains it, so I got my answer😀

I would say it’s the same platform as the Melco s100 switch. For my Melco Switch there is a clock OCXO update from Pink Faun for a lot of money. The TeraDak is already equipped with a clock. An LPS included and suitable for fiberglass. The TeraDak Switch or the TeraDak T-S 212 would be an ideal addition to my fiber optic network. Between router and streamer.

It looks like a well designed piece.

Time for 🏌🏽‍♂️ I need a break from this forum!

Donald, I know that you’re continuing to use fiber optic connections in your streaming system, but I have been unsure whether that is a viable option for me. Yesterday, I happened to read an interview from June of 2022 on The Music Room website between Duncan Taylor and a streaming expert named Vassil. Apparently Vassil has a very lengthy DIY thread on the AudiophileStyle website, and he appears to know what he’s doing. The link to the interview is https://tmraudio.com/blog/down-the-rabbit-hole-network-tweaks-streamer-diy/

In this interview, Vassil says that he prefers to not use fiber in the signal path in his streaming system. Instead, he uses fiber only to isolate the other noisy electronic devices in his house from his wired streaming equipment. It’s an interesting take on fiber from a guy who is a streaming expert and has tried a wide range of streaming options.

Early in the interview, Duncan mentions that he added a Nordost QNET to his home streaming system. I’ve heard recently from one of the TMR sales reps that the QNET was preferred over the Innuos PhoenixNET in a switch shoot-out they did at TMR. So now I’m trying to see if other users prefer the Nordost switch to the Innuos switch. I would expect either of those switches to sound better than the LHY switches, but I don’t have any reliable evidence to support that assumption. Maybe you and Luca could buy all those switches and try them out? :grinning:

The Teradak and also the LHY switch are very good switches and I wonder if there is a need to choose an expensive switch with a big name.

I bought the Melco s100 switch when it came out. Today the price went up again. The model with the LPS cost four times the TeraDak. The Melco still doesn’t have an OXCO clock, which the TeraDak already has. A pink faun clock can be retrofitted in the Melco S100, again it costs a lot of money. I haven’t heard the TeraDak switch but I think it performs very well. Add a good quality power cord and a good fuse and the TeraDak is sure to be at the top of the game.

It would certainly be great if the Teradak and LHY switches sounded as good as the Innuos and Nordost. How good are the power supplies in the less expensive switches? It seems that power supplies make a big difference in how a switch sounds.

Yes, a power supply on the switch makes a difference. Equally big is the difference between a fuse and a power cord on the switch. The TeraDak seems like a great package. Add a fuse and a good power cord. I think it’s great then. There are differences in the sound. Let’s do the math: My Melco Switch S 100 (2000, currently €2500), a sbooster with Akiko silencer from audiofacts (550€), an Audioquest Hurricane source (€1000, currently €1500), but I would choose one let others decide Make your choice for a power cord today. Fuse AM Premier Ultimate (300€). Also an Ethernet cable, in my case a J-Cat Lan Signature Gold (1200€). If I were to install an additional clock in the switch, I would have to calculate an additional €1500. The TeraDak does not cost 1300€ + cable and fuse. A lot of money just to get a better ethernet signal. Was it worth. I would say yes As a result, it has at least reached the sound quality of my CD playback, maybe Qobuz sounds even better now.

If I were to buy a switch today I would consider the TeraDak and with a good fuse ( AM masterpiece or SR Master. The AM Ultimate Premier sounds better in my case than the SR Purple in the LPS for my switch. ) A good power cord. Furutech Dps-4.1 or better a Zenwave PCR 14.

Also have a look at the LAN and power cables in the Kam-Audio shop.

What’s interesting is that custom build PCB imo with an isolated ethernet port. SW8 and SW10 all uses off the shelf switches from the likes of netgear or cisco.

Thank you for the link. It is interesting to hear Vassil’s take on F.O. I will soon compare between Omega ethernet cable and F.O. in my system. I could move the F.O. to upstream of SW-10 for isolating noise only, if it turns out ethernet is sounding better.
