If you send me the Omega I can always try it with the Muon Pro for you… ah ah ah
Sure, I’ll bring both over when you’re buying dinner in Italy
Just booked a table at my favorite restaurant! You are more than welcome.
Luca, your comments are extremely helpful (as usual). I wish I could keep both the Eno filter and the PhoenixNet in my streaming system. I agree that the combination of a good switch and a good passive filter is ideal from a sound quality perspective, but there was just too much disruption in communication between the Sense software and the Zen server when I tried the Eno and the PNET together. (By the way, I am using the Sense setting that keeps the screen always on.)
Although the PNET is a lot better sounding than the EE 8Switch when used in isolation, introducing the Eno filter between the PNET and the Zen disrupts the stability of the Sense app. This problem does not occur when the EE 8Switch and Eno are used together. I tried placing the Eno before the PNET in the streaming chain, but this did not eliminate the problem.
Until I decide what to do long-term, I’m not using the Eno filter at all in my system. However, I did a little experimenting and discovered that sound quality becomes a bit smoother and more relaxed when I add in the EE 8Switch between my router and the PNET. I know that some folks have found improved sound by cascading multiple switches, but I have not previously gone that route. My current streaming path (ignoring the connecting cables) is as follows: modem > router > EE 8Switch > PNET > Zen server > PUSB > DAC. I hope to add in the Muon Pro, the ENO2, or the EXT-2 between the PNET and the Zen if I can figure out what will work best for me. I may take a look at the cost and features of the Tempus switch when it gets launched, but I haven’t given up on the PNET yet.
Thanks again for all your help!
How did you proceed?
Jdee,
After experimenting with several combinations of ethernet switches and filters, I’ve been happily using the following streaming pathway for the past few months:
Netgear Modem > (Blue Jeans 1m 6A ethernet cable) > Netgear Router > (Eno ethernet cable) > Eno ethernet filter > (short captive Eno cable) > EE 8Switch > (Blue Jeans 15m 6A ethernet cable) > PhoenixNet switch > (Muon Pro ethernet cable) > Muon Pro ethernet filter > (short captive Muon Pro cable) > Innuos Zen MK3 server/streamer > (Shunyata Alpha USB cable) > PhoenixUSB > (Eno USB III cable) > DS Dac Mk2.
In my system, I found that there was an upgrade in relaxed, natural sound with the use of two ethernet switches and both of the ethernet filters I own (Muon Pro and the original Eno filter). It is likely that the Muon Pro filter will work well anywhere in the streaming chain, but the Eno filter did not work well between the PNET filter and the Innuos Zen for me. However, the original Eno filter works well to clean up noise right after my router without introducing any problems further downstream. According to Network Acoustics, the Muon Pro is a more sophisticated and effective filter than the Eno filter (and more expensive, of course).
I think that Luca has been able to try out the new Tempus switch from Network Acoustics (or he will be doing so soon). I’ll be interested in hearing how the Tempus compares with the PNET in his system.
I hope this info is helpful.
Appreciate the details…,
TY.
Glad to see you are so happy! I am also excited having the Muon Pro streaming system and the Tempus switch in my setup.
Thanks. I’m still waiting to test the Tempus… and compare it to the PNET.
I have the Muon Pro system and like it. What do you think the Muon Tempest brought to the table?
Good question! Curious minds want to know.
Wind, rain… a disaster in your system!
As I have been using various switches and power supplies before I thought about another improvement with the Tempus but didn’t expect it to be that remarkable. Everything is just more fluent, natural, deeper sound stage, entering the music in a different way. Also less „digital“.
I very much agree also Network Acoustics tempus | HFA - The Independent Source for Audio Equipment Reviews with listening impressions and comparing it to other high end switches.
Thanks for sharing. Curious to know which switches you had in the past…
From Netgear, Cisco to more audiophile ones like Meraki, EtherRegen (also with Farad Super3 with SR Purple fuse and Furutech inlet) which I also tried in combination with Finnisar SFPs and a Sonore Optical Module Deluxe V2 (also power by Super3 with same upgrades) - all powered by an AudioQuest Monsoon power cord - or a Melco S100.
For me the Tempus is a great achievement and I also tweaked it further with an AudioQuest Blizzard XTRM power cord.
I bought an EtherRegen second hand and have it placed just before my AirLens in my system. Its powered by an iFi iPower (MK I) power supply.
It fulfilled the hippocratic oath, but I did not really perceive the curing of any particular ills, if I recall correctly.
If you don’t mind my asking/sharing:
Where did you find the EtherRegen to provide the best benefit in your system?
Also, how/where are the Tempus switch and Muon Pro components deployed in your system?
Appreciate your time…
New audiophile switch I am looking for is Switch X! It is available at GTT in New Jersey.
You might try the EtherRegen with an iFi iPower Elite and a decent power cord. It should be connected with your ISP modem and all other network gear. There is a moat between the A and B side, so you have various inputs on the A side like the ISP modem, a NAS etc. and the streamer or DAC is connected on the B side. What ethernet cable are you using between the EtherRegen and the AirLens?
In my setup the Tempus is connected with the ISP modem and all other devices like NAS, TV etc. are connected to it. Also connected is the Muon Pro streaming system which is then connected to the streamer.
As is mentioned also in the HiFi Advice review I would first go for a Muon Pro streaming system which immediately improves any network setup - and I tested this out with some high end setups too. If you got additional budget, of course as the next step the Tempus provides further improvements.
Thanks for the reply.
Cheers.
Appreciate your thoughts on the Tempest. I felt the bump using the Muon Pro System but that was after an entry level cable, without filtering, so expectations were high. I can plug the Muon Pro cable or filter directly into my modem that has a 1 gig Ethernet output and I have no need for any more switch ports.
I’ve read about the advantages of “super switches” like the Tempest have killer clocks and custom power supplies.
My old school philosophy tells me a direct connection is always best. My experience is that there are always add-ons to improve things, especially in taming digital noise. I could buy and try the Tempest of course, but if it is just overkill, I would like to spend elsewhere. Opinions welcome.
