Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

ah gotcha.

(interestingly enough, over on the AirLens thread, there’s talk of that thing relaxing after a while.)

But yeah for sure, the A6 is a swell thing.

I’m going usb into a matrix x-spdif 2 then i2s from that to Pontus II. I did toss an M2 drive in there, and listened to stuff off that, but i didn’t critique it too deeply. So, roon playing local, or off qobuz, or files played from the A6 SSD, it all sounds fab.

Another review, I like his approach, compared to alot of other current gen streamers.

After playing the Eversolo for roughly 100 hours, I did a lot of back-and-forth listening between the Eversolo and my iFi Zen Stream with iPower X PSU (both plugged into my Holo Spring 3 KTE DAC via USB):

Compared to the Zen Stream, I also found the Eversolo sounded a little bit cleaner, it separated instruments just a touch better, and I occasionally thought it had a slightly wider soundstage. The Eversolo was also a bit brighter and more forward sounding than the iFi Zen Stream for me. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Eversolo is bright sounding, just moreso than the Zen. The bass was comparable between the Eversolo and the Zen. Overall though, I’d say that I really had to listen closely to detect the differences between the two streamers.

Since I am looking for a definitive upgrade, and since I had no need for all the other Eversolo features, I decided to return it. However, for someone who uses all the features, I think it’s safe to say that the Eversolo is an incredible bargain!

Then I ended up buying the Auralic Aries G2 with Hoer-Wege power supply.
That was a major step up in sound quality from my iFi Zen Stream and Eversolo, but it obviously costs a lot more.

The most significant improvement was in detail retrieval, followed by blacker backgrounds, deeper soundstage, and a more 3D sound in general. It’s pretty impressive! It’s much more detailed while at the same time sounding smoother, which are two things that don’t always come hand in hand in my experience.

Please keep in mind I have limited experience with streamers and have probably owned less gear than most people on this forum.

Many times less experience is better at picking up on changes to any system (stereo or otherwise)

I recently got an Eversolo for my headphone setup. It replaced the Holo Audio Red which I had a problem connecting to my Burson Dac/amp. Can’t say the Eversolo is better than the Red since I have never compared them but the user interface is 100x better than Red. Speaking of Auralic, I am in my second month with Aries G2.1 and the Aries is in completely difference level than Eversolo/Red. I run Aries > matrix> MKI, and the SQ is very close to spinning CD or SACD on PST.

Looks like shellig out $$$ for the Auralic G2.2 is inevitable.

Probably true for me in 2024

Pretty much the same experience here with Auralic Aries G2. Waiting to see if G2.2 will be a significant upgrade. Auralic is really in a different league. Pretty close to Aurender N20 in SQ. I am running mine through I2S using Matrix X-SPDIF2. Several people had mentioned to me that the transformer upgrade brought it to another level. Sometimes I wish I could simplify my setup with one-box frontend, but when I hear the sound coming from Auralic, that thought dissipates quickly.

I put an Aries G1 into my system at one time, pre-ROON for me. It was stunning and I thought it would be unnecessary to look for better. A G2.2 with thee power supply upgrade has to be something extraordinary.

I think Auralic’s stock just rose a point or two with that statement.

The G2.2 is on my shopping list, along with Innuos Pulsar. Both boast better processors, power supplies,
clocks…the race continues.

But not when choosing a mate. I learned this lesson the hard way.

My Grimm MU1 still has my full attention. I believe it exceeds the other devices we are discussing.

At least they know very precisely what time it is when they die.

Understood. The Grimm might be the pinnacle of a single box streaming solution. Though I have not tried them, separate box solutions from Aurender, Innuos, Auralic, and the like, might have even better performance. Here each main component is isolated and optimized. Clock and power supply for sure and some also separate the drive and Ethernet switch. If you add good power and source cables, the multi box route will easily surpass $20k. That’s a tough nut to crack for unlimited access that only matches the sonics of a high quality cd player like the PST.
So, the goal is to get cd quality reproduction in a streamer and save my shekels for a separate box DAC down the road (TSS?) that will benefit all sources. Hopefully, the new Auraic G2.2 or Innuos Pulsar that offer near “separate box performance”, will get me there. The Eversolo A6 gets me 85% there, so I’m not suffering. For now I’ll take the rapid streaming advances as a blessing rather than a curse and pounce when ready. Or wait till a Grimm fall’s from the sky from someone who has moved on. :slightly_smiling_face:

Finding it difficult to beat the AMP-6. Would love to do blind tests with streamers and DACs from 2-10x the price and determine what if any differences can be observed. We don’t see these tests because they would be terrible marketing pieces for many more expensive products if, as I assume, many of us would be unable to discern major differences.

Oh wow. I didn’t realize you had the A6. You are gonna have to upgrade your amps and speakers to really enjoy it. Lol. Joking of course.

But I think like anything in this hobby diminishing returns in digital seems to be the largest imho. Yes you can hear ‘better’ for sure and appreciate that.

I find the liveliness of the a6 is a nice synergistic companion w my system. I find the DS MkI to be more analog sounding… I think the a6 feeding it seems to provide a bit of jump and improved stage. This is compared to jriver/laptop + fidelizer setup.

I’m sure there are better but … eh having my pass labs amps on for two days seems to have a bigger impact in sound. I dunno.

All I can say is that I could only hear small differences between the Eversolo and the iFi Zen when switching back and forth repeatedly, but I could immediately hear a major difference between the Eversolo and Aries G2. I didn’t need to switch back and forth at all, because the difference was huge.

To be honest this was a surprise to me, because I didn’t think streamers could have this much of an impact on sound. For me, it’s proof that the rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper, and that there are still many opportunities to improve the sound of my system if I’m willing to invest the money. Do I really need to? No. My system already sounds fantastic (to me).

But will I keep going down the rabbit hole? I think you already know!
