I’m surprised the Airlens hasn’t been getting more hype since release. Or am I just not aware of the hype?

Why are you surprised? Due to its output set of only i2s and coax, where else but here on PSA forum would you expect to see hype? The folks here who’ve gotten it seem to like it.

Many have said (I haven’t) that it is primarily for PSA dac users. Some even predicted (though they were proven wrong) that the AL would never be released due to its feature set that didn’t include things other streamers did

With your comparisons, were you using the internal DAC in the A6?
If so, have you listened to DSD256 files on the A6 using the internal DAC inside the A6?
The reason I ask is that I borrowed someone’s A6 for a few weeks, and DSD files converted to analogue thru the internal DAC sounded MUCH better than streaming and using the internal DAC.

All comparisons above were using it as a streamer into my Holo Audio DAC.

I did test the Eversolo DAC as well, but that was (unsurprisingly) not as good as using my external DAC.

That does not surprise me, Holo DACs are very good.

Wow! That’s interesting. I’m very impressed with the A6 streaming quality and to say that DSD files sound so much better on it makes me think there is a lot more potential there.

Just for fun, I unhooked my Dahlquist DQ10s and plugged in my Sonus faber Venere 3.0s. The Eversolo internal DAC sounded good with the Dahlquists but there is some serious synergy going on when used with the Sonus fabers. Never liked the DACs bass before but it really gels when feeding the Veneres.

If the AR is released 1 year earlier the hype would probably been a lot bigger is my guess. Many loud PS fans who frequent here had moved on to other streamers.

Flashing back to my mid-70’s audio formative years… I seriously lusted after either a set of Dahlquist DQ10s or ESS AMT-1Bs. I developed a soft spot for the time-aligned drivers of the DQ10s and the Heil Air-Motion transformers of the AMTs. Both brought something very unique and special for their time. Unfortunately, my meager USAF wage only provided for Kenwoods :smiling_face_with_tear:

Another speaker from this time period was the Ohm F. Saw it along with the Heil AMT 1 at our local TechHighFi store. Both were very amazing speakers in their time. Bought my Dahlquist DQ 10s from Marshall Music in East Lansing Michigan. I had just passed my board exams in pharmacy. Celebrated by buying the Dahlquists, my dream speakers. Never dreamt that I would still be perfecting a system around them more than 45 years later. They’ve never failed me. They produce a sound that will forever be ingrained in my psyche. Never experienced anything else like this product in my audio journey. I wonder how many speaker systems I would have owned if I hadn’t bought these. So, I guess they have saved me untold thousands of dollars over the years. Like any speaker they are not perfect but they have come pretty close for me. They like a lot of power and you needed to stay away from bright sounding components.

Kudos to you for hanging on to them all these years. They are truly iconic!!

The current forecast is for Grimm to emanate from the constellation Al, in the NW sky. Keep your eyes peeled!

I owned both the Dalquist DQ10 and the Heil AMT 1 in my college days. I made some extra cash by modifying DQ10’s so they were mirror imaged. Baffleless drivers and planar diaphragms have come a long way but they were the pioneers. A fun time.

Mine are mirror imaged. I also had the crossover upgrade which was popular back then to.

Whoa whoa whoa. East Lansing? What year? I’m an msu grad myself.

Grew up in Lansing area. Graduated from Dewitt HS. Graduated pharmacy school in 77 and acquired my Dahlquists. Both my sons are MSU graduates.

Nobody is perfect.
