New Eversolo Streamer only T8

Impressive set of features!
It will no doubt result in a challenging comparison, e.g. against the Hifi Rose RS130 and the streaming function of the PMG dac.

… yet this Eversolo T8 is priced at just US $1,380 | €1,380, a small fraction of the RS130.

I put the 130 vs A6. The 130 won. Did not take long to hear it. But was it worth the money difference? That beautiful screen is a big part of the cost I am sure. One to have it and two keep it from effecting sound. In my case it was behind me so I could not even see it.

I have not played with any of the gen 2 stuff yet from eversolo. But T8 is first streamer only. Guessing it’s the front end of the A10.

FIR room correction capability, too. Something a number of us in the RS130 world had been hoping for.

I have not tried the Eversolo correction. I think they released it for my A6. I use different software via Roon filters. But yeah eversolo stuff is really great bargains.

You would probably have been disappointed. If you want to do things properly, you need, at the very least, to use REW and a well-made calibrated microphone like the UMIK-1 USB omnidirectional calibrated microphone. Avoid the one sold by Eversolo, which is just a toy. Then everyone…

Just for your information, as a pure listener (like T8), I recommend trying out the Shanling SMT 1.3, preferably in I2S mode connected to a DAC of your choice. Price well below 1000 dollars.

Thanks for referring the Shanling SMT1.3 - do you know if it is/will be Roon ready ? Also is it gapless playback ? Any info is appreciated thanks

For the Gapless, Shanling says it will be implemented in the upcoming updates, we’ll see.

Yeah that’s pretty much why I never tried it. If I had nothing then yeah I would have. May help a few bass peaks but i would not expect more than that. I am surprised more devices do not come with Dirac.

In fact, I agree, this would be a good solution (Dirac)

Lack of gapless playback is just stupid.

It should be the number one requirement from the design onwards.

It should be, but it wasn’t. We hope it’s done soon, even if it only affects local files (on SSD) and can be solved with Roon or by those who use it with Qobuz Connect, for example. But that’s no excuse.

No gapless is a deal breaker for me - also no mention of Roon in the Shanling material which is another issue in my system if missing. I suspect it will be there eventually but I did not see it called out anywhere.

For me, it’s a very relative problem; I prefer to have a high-performance car, and I will wait for further updates.

PS a new firmware was released today, it’s a good sign that the device is being supported.

Anyone get an Eversolo T8 yet? The PMG 512 streamer works well, but it only does Qobuz Connect and Roon. I’m not a Roon user, and I primarily use Qobuz and the stuff I own streamed from my Synology NAS via DLNA/UPnP. I’m also subscribed to Amazon Music courtesy of Prime, but I can’t get there from here. It’s a bit of a pain in the rump to switch between Qobuz Connect and a DLNA app like mConnect on my iPhone/iPad, and there’s no way to configure playlists merging recordings from disparate sources or to search across local and streaming catalogs without subscribing to Roon, the only reason for which would be so I could do those things. With my Aries and Auralic’s Lightning DS app I’m happy enough, except for the fact that Auralic went out of business and won’t be updating the software anymore.

The Eversolo T8 is tempting for a few reasons. First, I could do the stuff I can’t do without having to play with Roon and a Nucleus. Second, I could install SSDs in the T8 and store all my NAS-based music on the T8 and avoid any future futzing with my NAS or a Nucleus. Third, the I2S (and the USB) port is electrically isolated, so that’s a great thing. Fourth, the app looks pretty nice, plus there’s a remote. And fifth, it has a nice color display. Even if it doesn’t last forever, I could buy another one (and another one) and still have spent less than the cost of, say, a HiFi Rose RS130.

Anyway, any comments on personal user experience with an Eversolo T8 and a PMG 512 DAC will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not to be a nah sayer but would it be easier to buy a roon core and lifetime than a T8 or even a rose. It’s the same price as T8 and half the price of rose 130. By the way I owned a 130 the rose software is garbage. You would want roon with that. Just saying if roon has what you want for under $2k you own it.

Only down side to that is Amazon. No bueno with roon.

I’ve had a T-8 in my possession since the 3rd of the month. It has been streaming 24/7 since then through Qobuz, Tidal, Internet Radio and just a brief test of Amazon. All of them work as they should. I have used both the Eversolo app and JPlay for IOS with it and again both apps work as they should with the T-8. I have had no issues with it at all. Was a little ā€œthinā€ sounding out of the box but that went away after about 100 hours. For your stated usage and situation it should everything do you need. Also if you order it from Amazon you have the 30 day free return policy if it doesn’t work the way you need it to. It will allow you to stay away from the whole Roon ecosystem.

Thanks very much for passing along your experience with the T8; it’s very helpful.

Another T8 owner here using it with my modified DS DAC. I concur with dawkinsj the T8 is a great unit for the money. You get a nice display (better than A8) in a compact, well built chassis. Half the internals is dedicated to the linear power supply. I can’t comment on how the apps you would use work because I just use if for streaming music from my Truenas server running Logitech media server. I can say, controlled from my tablet, it’s performance is solid with no hiccups so far after a couple of weeks. There was an issue with channel reversal on PCM with the IIS configured for the DS DAC. I informed Eversolo of the bug and they added a channel reversal option to the firmware a couple of weeks later. If you decide to buy it make sure the firmware is updated to 1.5.30.
