Fave listening chair?

Anyone tried the Eames Lounge chair replicas from Amazon? I think they run between $550 - $650.

I have one. Very nice and comfortable but too low for my speakers. Its right next to my desk for report reading (and naps!)

Maybe an inch. The lounge is a Suluco ā€œtall size upgradedā€ from Amazon, around 700

seat height on mine is approx 13ā€. I am looking for at a minimum 19ā€

I’ll check the SULUCO

If you’re into the La-Z-Boy style, they have chairs that run at 18-19ā€ seat height. Many are high back, but as of about two years ago they did have a few low back styles. I looked there even though ultimately I chose to go a different route.

The Poang may feel (or even look) flimsy, but my two have held up under my bulk for years without complaint or damage. But I finally got tired of struggling to get out of the one in the listening room, so I went with a Stressless Admiral on the slightly higher optional tilt/swivel base. Considerably easier to use and super comfortable. And it got my ears much more aligned with the Maggies’ tweeter sections. I was too low in the Poang. Imaging improved substantially with the higher chair; I was surprised, considering the tweeters run the full height of the panels.

My ears are happiest when they are about in the middle point of my LSR tweeters. As I descend into my sitting (=listening) position I can hear the soundstage open up (moving forward) especially on female vocalists and solo violins. I’m current at a good height on a most inappropriate seat—the back is shoulder height but it’s a damned 3-person couch. No where else for it to be in that room, save for the sweet spot, and my wife will not permit its departure. And, no she never sits there, either alone or with me (no where to put her mug of tea, or glass of wine).

Leather or fabric? This is the question!

What’s your opinion guys?

As with everything, my friend, IME it depends on the room and the system. In my room, leather makes for a better sound (both by ear and as measured with REW). I think I told this story a while ago. I was using my leather seating solution and decided to buy a fabric ā€œchair and a halfā€, as they are called (remember - I need room so my wife and I can listen together! :musical_notes: :revolving_hearts: ). It was dimensioned approximately as the leather solution, but from a different maker. Ruined the frequency balance in the room. I promptly returned it. I could have probably redone all my already carefully designed acoustic treatment to somehow address it, but it wasn’t worth it to me. The bottom line is - don’t ignore your seating when thinking about how your system will sound in your room!

Thanks Tony and say hello to your wonderful wife, you’re a lucky man.

I remember well your experience, I was just wondering why other members are using a towel on their chairs, see posts above. My leather StressLess’ back chair is relatively low, my ears are usually higher than the headrest but I tried a fabric towel on it. I heard a difference, for the better.

Hence I’m wondering if my new chair should be made in fabric vs leather…

With leather, you can always place some sort of fabric material over the head rest to dial in the sound. That’s what I’m going to do with my leather recliner, now that I discovered how it’s impeading the sound of my system.

I was told leather is a better solution, sonically speaking. So I bought it.

Aesthetically I prefer fabric and I feel it more comfortable (warmer in winter and especially better in summer - I live in Italy - in direct contact with the skin). So I’m tempted to change material when I’ll buy a new one.

My wife says hello back!

I don’t think there’s any easy answer of one or the other. It all comes down to the room and the system. I was lucky to be able to try both, and I know that not everyone has that option. Make sure your ears (and ideally whole head) is above the back of the chair, at the right height for your speakers, and pick something that you know you’ll be comfortable in and not going to want to get out of while listening to music. All I can offer. :man_shrugging:
