I went back to 2.06. I had too much struggle with the playback. I would have to eject the disc and then close tray every time I wanted to play a disc more then once. Even after toggling the standby button. So I will wait until the final version is out before I update again.
A suggestion that may or may not work for you.
Hit the repeat button twice. The DMP will now repeat the whole disc.
This disc repeat function does not clear when a different disc is inserted.
Of course now you will have to manually stop future discs that you don’t want to repeat.
To me at least, this small inconvenience is well worth it for the sound quality increase.
As a work around on my unit I found that [stop] [next track] [previous track] [play] “unmutes” the DMP so I don’t need to open and close the tray. Other navigation is more reliable for me so I like the new software better.
That trick didn’t seem to help my unit?
Bummer - In my case I have to press the stop (even if things are stopped), then go to another track (with prev, next or the number pad), then I navigate back to the track I want to play and press play - it hasn’t failed for me if I do all of the steps, but perhaps I’m lucky…
I went back to try Interim 2.08. It sounds better for sure. Way more air, detail. Dead black backgrounds. I notice one thing for sure. If the disc is playing, and I use the power off on the remove, which places the dac, MP, and preamp into standby by, then upon power up again I have to eject the disc to play it again. No other button pushes seem to work. I am really looking forward to the release that keeps the amazing new sound, but repairs the functions of this great player. Sometime with a step forward we take a few steps back. It’s understandable.
I went back to 1.94. Much better sound quality for my system. Then I went back to 2.08. Well. . .there are good points to both. I think I’ll keep 2.08 in place and roll a tube or two and see if I can make it more palatable.
Similar but slightly different bug to what Darren reported.
Powered off system last night (DMP and DSD in standby as always) and just turned it back on to be met with a medium volume / medium pitched squeal from the system. After trial and error I determined it was emanating from the DMP (DSD worked fine with another source). DMP read Insert Disk which was weird because I knew one was in there. Powered off DMP using the swicth and let it boot back up. Squeal was now gone but transport wouldn’t recognize disk inside and wouldn’t play. Powered off again and loaded 2.06. DMP played fine again. Five minutes later, swapped 2.06 for 2.08 which booted up fine. Recognized a disk right away and played fine.
I’m thinking somehow the DMP internal software got corrupted. No power failures or glitches yesterday and never had that happen with any other version.
Just wanted to report it.
2.08 sounds better in my system. It also works better for me as the forward and backward functions now work but I still cannot play a disc after pressing stop without ejecting it and loading it again. What Ted suggested does not work for me.
Also I have some DSD material on DVD-R. The 2.8MHz files play as DSD but the 5.6MHz files are converted into PCM. Is that the same for everyone so it is by design? The those files play properly as DSD through the USB input.
Possibly why people speculate is a result when comments are made about the final rewrite taking a couple of months, then waiting 4+ months, then the comments about this is part one of a few updates etc…
Fingers crossed.
