Nothing beats hyperbole!

Thanks for explaining but it does make me a little nervous investing this kind of money thinking it’s the “last optical disc player you will ever need” only to find another 2-3 years down the line. I appreciate as I;m sure we all do product developments, I especially like the fact I can update my DSD Jnr for free every 6 months or so but a transport!

I think I’ll wait until the 2nd hand price of the DMP comes down & then upgrade my PWT :grimacing:

Well, I’ve had my DMP for more than four years, but I do take your point. That’s what digital audio is, always progressing. Even analog audio is, though not at the rate that digital progresses. Part of the audiophile danger zone . . . the great thing is being happy with what you have and making incremental changes as you can. One way to stay happy with what you have is to not go to forums like these!

There’s “need” and there’s “want”. As Nelson Pass says, this is the entertainment business.
You won’t need to replace your PWT. If you do replace it with a used DMP, you will do so because you want to unless your PWT fails.
And no one needs to replace their DMP with a PST. I did it because I want the features that the new technology offers.
The same can be said for socks or most anything, except maybe a broken water heater.

An excellent way to play!!

I just picked up a PWT so I can still play with the cover art and playlist. This way if or when I do give the PST a listen and I should decide to keep it I will not be giving up those features completely. I like to put cover art and track info on Disks that I make from my record collection.

FYI. Find a very expensive SACD player (ÂŁ175,000.) which uses same drive mechanism as PST (D&M SACD mechanism)

From the pricing point … Either PST uses “expensive” drive mechanism or Goldmund uses “cheap” drive mechanism

Hmmm–roughly $200,000 US and guaranteed some “expert” will tell you you bought the wrong one.

Could have got the same thing for $79 from China.

So Terrence, converting to dollars at $1.37 to the GBP, this SACD player unit has a list price of approximately $231,000 more than the PST, which adding in a PSA DSD ($6K) to provide the same player functionality makes it approximately $223,000 (18x) more than a PSA SACD/DSD system, 16 times more than an Esosteric K03sd, 13 times more than a Luxman x10 and twice as much as the fanciest dCS system. The integral shelving must be something exceptional, or maybe there is an extra zero in the quoted price?

I have heard some Goldmund stuff. They are not meant for us mortals but they do sound exceptionally good. “if you need to ask price, you cant afford it” level. I could live happily with their lower end speaker system, costing somewhere 70k and up from there ,huh.

Question for @jamesh : if you connect your PST to the DSD through aes, can you play the DSD layer of SACDs ?
From the specs: * 2x XLR output for PCM and DoP. Use in tandem for Double-rate DoP
So it seems like the answer is yes ?
Can you please confirm ?

PST arrived an hour ago. Curious about SQ right out of the box. Probably will be plugged in playing discs for a couple hours before i can put it into system. I spoke to James about break-in, but forgot to ask about out of the box…

I was glad initially about no touch screen, and now that it’s here, wonderful to just press a metal button to open, and not deal with that screen !!!
