Finally....PerfectWave SACD Transport

10-4.

Thank you.

SEE

The most recent piece of gear fitting the bill like this for me was the DS Sr. DAC. Prior to that, it was my new speakers (Anthony Gallo Acoustics Reference 3.1’s) more than 15 years ago.

Congratulations on your new transport.

I cannot play the DSD layer of a SACD.
The error message I get is, “SACD layer requires an I2S connection”.
I am only using an HDMI cable and I2S does work with regular CDs.
Firmware is 2.2.0.

I’ve tried three different SACD discs.
I’ve rebooted the PST and the DSD DAC multiple times.
I reinstalled my DMP transport and the DSD layer works fine with the same HDMI cable hooked up to the DAC.

Any suggestions?

I just saw someone else answer it, but the answer is no. In order to get the DSD layer from an SACD, it does need to be connected to one of our DACs via I2S. The player is able to output DSD through all outputs if the files are coming from a USB stick or data disc.

Might be worth giving our tech support guys a buzz today. It seems others have been able to rectify this by trying different cables.

PSA should take an action item to understand and correct this issue, while keeping us informed.
I have four hdmi cables and they work as follows, meaning they all play “CD” but will or will not read and play “SACD”, BUT ALL WILL PLAY SACD ON THE DMP.
RAL–NO
Wireworld Silver Sphere—Yes
Harmonic Technology “Magic”–NO
PS Audio std issue—Yes
Thanks

And another thing----that I really like about the PST: the internal wireless antenna.
Even an old fart like me can download firmware upgrades. No sd card, no fuss.

Don’t forget that the player has a usb input.

Strange, FWIW, PST to DACSR via RAL is ok here.

Strange indeed. The whole issue is strange. I can’t think of why one will work and another won’t.

You would need to know what the accepted standard specs on the plug and socket are and also find out if they meet the spec before deciding why one would work differently than the other. Galen could possibly add some light to the issue. I know the WW cable needed some support to work correctly for me on the DSD. If it sagged much as all it would lose connection. The Pink Faun HDMI cable has a much more secure feel and has never lost its connection. It snaps into place.

All you need to do is to stand behind the unit and hold it in place :man_shrugging:t2: At plus or minus 3 degrees in the Y axis. If you’re thinking you can use props or tape to hold it in place
well, that’s as may be, but it sounds SO much better with the gounding provided by a human holding it.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I already have the DS DAC, and not knowing when the next PSA DAC offerings would be available, I was looking for something different for my office workstation to drive cans and powered desk monitors. After extensive research, I was just about reconciled to purchase a Chord Dave with the Hogo M Scaler. Then I started seeing the articles and video reviews for the Holo Audio KTE May DAC. The dual-mono design from power supplies to the outputs, build quality, O-type flat wire transformers, and upgraded internal components and wiring definitely caught my attention. The various reviewer’s impressions of this DAC are enthusiastically positive across the board. In the last Chord review video I watched, the reviewer was thoroughly impressed with what he was hearing and then exclaimed toward the end of his summation “the elephant in the room, the Holo May DAC outperforms the Dave with M Scaler at one-third the price.” I think I’m going to give the Holo KTE May DAC and their Azure Headphone Amplifier/Pre-amp a whirl. The I2S inputs are configurable four ways, has anyone configured one of these for PSA protocol? I’d like to use the PST and the upcoming Octave Player for sources. Also, looking for headphone recommendations as to SQ and long-duration use comfort.

It is actually rotation around the local Y axis and therefore would be correctly called the B axis. Just sayin’.

Okay, I ordered one now as well. Fun.

Certainly aesthetically pleasing kit. So clean looking and symmetrical in its design/layout.

Looking forward to your listing impressions

Cheers.

Must say, this build quality looks amazing. Other brands in this price category could feel slightly uncomfortable seeing how well this is done

Very clever to use black inside and out, triggering our many cultural associations with black (elegant, serious, expensive, etc.).

Hi all,
Could any owner publish a couple of photos of the PST turned on and with a disk inside? I already have an unit booked but I still have to wait for it
Many thanks in advance and best regards from Spain!

Hi, Gepe!

Great idea, and I bet there are others who would like to see such pictures also.
