OMG that Shihab cd is hard to beat either in musical content or sonic quality. . . exceptional.

Now, something different, onto the Bob Dylan “The Cutting Edge Collector’s Edition” box set, disc 4–all “Like a Rolling Stone.”

By the end of this disc I can tell you how it feels.

Another day waking up to Paul Desmond.
ps—another garage sale find. Paper thin vinyl that sounds amazing.

A late start today. After listening to NPR’s 1A’s piece on Leonard Bernstein I felt compelled to listen yet again to his rendition of William Schuman’s American Festival Overture.

I heard, and enjoyed, the program this morning.

So much so I’d like to revisit it. Brought back memories of reading Thomas Wolfe’s Radical Chic and Mau Mauing the Flack Catchers.

A little warmer this morning. Beautiful outside. . . Fiona the dachshund and I had a nice walk, slow and leisurely.

Starting off with some Moody, his last I think.

Grammy winning release from James Moody. Just as nice as its companion release, “4A.”

Joe Locke “Love is a Pendulum” Motema cd

A well-recorded quartet album with Locke’s very modern vibe and vibes.

Featuring Joe Locke (vibes), Robert Rodriguez (piano), Terreon Gully (drums), Ricky Rodriguez (bass)
plus special guests Rosario Giuliani, Donny McCaslin, Voctor Provost, Theo Bleckmann, Paul Bollenback

Reaching for a random blues listen this morning Classic Piedmont Blues more than fits the bill. This most enjoyable Smithsonian Folkways collection of Piedmont blues features Brownie McGhee, Josh White, Elizabeth Cotten, Doc Watson, Reverend Gary Davis, John Cephas, and Archie Edwards, to name a few. When I get the urge for some blues I tend to get stuck in Chicago or Mississippi blues, forgot I had this. A random reach within the blues cd collection suits me just fine.
Elizabeth Cotten performing Going Down the Road Feeling Bad is as good as it gets.

I listened to the Joe Locke again, warming the amp up after a short walk with Fiona the dachshund in the cool morning air.

Now disc 1 of the 2 cd set from Blue Note, the late Wayne Shorter, first release from a series of material he collated before his passing, “Celebration.” A live show from Stockholm in 2014. Very nice.

Bill Evans Trio, Waltz for Debbie. Yes the UHQR is worth the price.

Up late. . . my wife was worrying about our future kitchen, and the dachshund was having a rough time falling asleep. So I got in a bit of listening:

Late night in the city, picked this and several more from Alexander Hawkins at the Dog Days Festival. Alexander joined Peter Manu, Katinka Klein, Jeb Bishop, Josh Berman, and teo others whose names escape me at the moment in an ensemble formed by provocateur Michael Moore performing the music of Misha Mengleberg. Their set was outstanding.

My kitchen remodel physically begins this morning, I’m squeezing this in while I can on this stuffy morning. Fiona the dachshund has settled down for a nap before all the excitement begins.

Bill Charlap “Stardust” Blue Note cd

A beautiful album. Tony Bennett is singing right now. . . wonderfully. Sound is great as well.

Oddly I bought this used as “Plays George Gerswin: the Soul of America” which is the jewel case I got. . . with the Stardust cd within. Still, a great cd!

“Bobby Gordon Plays Bing” Arbors Jazz cd

I love Gordon’s clarinet playing, and these cats really know how to get deep into these jazz styles of the past.

Late night iin the city last night equates to a late start this morning. It is going to be a scorcher, but the Micheal Moore Trio, Bering should cool things down ever so slightly. A fine first listen featuring Fred Hersch, and Mark Helias. This set is a reminder for me to listen more to the work of Mr. Hersch.
I can definetly relate to the cover image as that is what I’d be up to had I headed up north instead of digging into the Dog Days Festival. Fun all the same. Life is Good!
