Flat Screen TV “Acoustic Treatment”

From which one of us?

It would take a bit of ingenuity but what about diffusers hung from some sort of barn door mechanism that you can open to watch tv and shut for music

That works!

You, for one.

I (and probably others) would like to know more about your “temporary get ‘up’”.

Cheers.

Dang, that’s too bad. Probably the foam/plastic diffuser situation then.

Thinking about it some more…If I could get the thinnest SlatFuser of a big enough size, I suppose I could lean it against the screen, but I am pretty sure the factory sizing options won’t cut it.

Food for thought…

I’ve been struggling with the same question for quite a while and have not come up with any options that were practical or aesthetically acceptable in my situation. Here are a few options I thought of.

  1. A quilt similar to what you’ve done but with a musical-themed print. The problem with this is that due to the location of my equipment, it would be difficult to put the quilt over the screen
  2. Light, thin acoustic panels with a U-shaped hanger that can hang the panel on the top of the TV. As with 1, it isn’t easy to place on the TV due to the equipment in front of it. Furthermore, I would be worried about the u-shaped mounting bracket scratching the screen.
  3. Curtains on motorized curtain rod mounted to the ceiling. This is the best option I’ve come up with to date, but I don’t like the curtains being bunched up on either side of the TV when I want to watch. Like you, my TV extends down partway to where my acoustic panels are, and I don’t want the curtains to interfere with how the panels function. Plus, the curtains would look kind of silly (not happy with the aesthetics) in the middle of the wall.

If I think of something better, I will share it, but I’ve been thinking of this for a few years and have nothing.

Go penny wise cheap until you are certain that the untreated screen actually causes a negative effect. I have a 75” TV on the wall between and behind my Martin Logan CLX. Without the TV, it would be Sheetrock just 5 inches deeper. I’ve never experienced a loss of resolution or depth because of a wall mounted TV.

My TV is about 5 inches from the drywall behind it. In my case, I draped a comforter over the TV as an experiment, improving the depth of the soundstage. However, reaching over the equipment to put it over the TV wasn’t practical. Very awkward.

Mine is about 18” from the front wall, FWIW.

That’s how I currently deploy the lightweight blanket.

Thanks a lot buddy. Now I have to try it. Fortunately, I have long arms.

I just remembered that it wasn’t a comforter; it was one of those moving blankets they use to drape over the elevator walls when moving things into apartment buildings.

Nice and heavy…

Yes, and if you ever went into an elevator with those things on the wall you notice the lack of echo in the elevator pretty readily.

You have the monster SVS SB16’s! Those move a lot of air!

On the serious side, my speakers are far enough away from the tv to make the tv insignificant, and my lights are not symmetrical, lol.

Plus, you have tubes.

The amp looks like it’s getting ready to run away! Lol

Aimed for the door.
