I had the same concern so initially I purchased a pair of diffusers from GIK Acoustics. I installed a shelf below the flat screen TV. Two diffusers definitely made a difference but it took two more to make a difference I was looking for. The problem I had was when I wanted to watch the TV I had to remove the 4 diffusers.
After tossing around several ideas I purchased heavy duty online pocket door hardware. I took the diffusers and screwed in two planks on the back of each set of two. I attached the pocket door hardware to the top of each plank. Subsequent to this,I installed the pocket door track on the ceiling. The hardware on each plank allowed me to easily slide the diffusers back and forth. To watch a movie, I slide two diffusers to the left and the other two to the right and simultaneously move the curtains as well.
For safety , I drilled a hole through the end of each rail and installed a pin so that the diffusers could not slide off the track.
my getup is based on a PhotoShoot backdrop frame (collapsible, etc) Amazon.com: VEVOR Backdrop Banner Stand 8 x 8 Ft Adjustable Height Background Stand Backdrop With 1 Carrying Bag, Backdrop Stand For Parties Wedding Photo Booth Trade Show : Electronics
from which I hang lightweight qrd diffusers made of Styrofoam which I purchased from PI AUDIO GROUP (AQD DIFFUSERS). They are light so I put 3m hooks on the back and I hang them from the top crossover bar of the backdrop frame.
I set the height just high enough to clear a center channel speaker I have under the projector which is a couple inches taller than my Thresholds.
the location of those lamps is giving me PTSD.
I like your solution. In my case, the ceiling is 11’ tall. thus why I’m thinking of putting them on casters.
Can’t tell much from your picture. Is it some sort of photoshop?
Very creative.
Good work!
Just found this old thread ^.
FYI.
Is that a Martin Logan Logos? That speaker weighs like 70lbs.
Yes it is ! It is very well bolted into the ceiling.
I have one in my basement. It needs service and it’s the one panel ML doesn’t make replacement panels for.
I am really sad to hear that as my panel like myself is getting up there in age.
I think logos was discontinued in 1997,1998 it was Martin Logan’s first center speaker. Yours still works so that’s impressive! 62 pounds I looked it up. I guess I could sell mine as a movie prop. Lol
I purchased mine used from Godwin’s Audio across from Boston University. I had just paid for it and the owner walked in and saw the sale. He asked Leland about the transaction .When he heard that I paid $700 for it he wasn’t happy as he said “I was going to list it for $1,000.”
Apparently a BU student had purchased an entire Martin Logan surround sound system and within two weeks he had blown out two of the speaker panels. The Logos wasn’t one of them. His benefactor probably daddy; purchased an entirely new speaker system for him sans the limited trade in value.
I couldn’t imagine having a complete Martin Logan surround sound system and going to college. I would have loved to see what he was driving.
Lightweight foam which does not scratch the screen, and is held by two 18” rubberized gear ties bent to slip over the top edge. Easy to remove and set aside for viewing.
Brand of acoustic foam…?
24” x 48” x 2” acoustic sponge panels: Amazon.com: 4 pack Acoustic Foam Panels acoustics Panel black PYRAMID large size sound absorbing foam board 48" × 24” × 2” : Musical Instruments
-That’s essentially what I did with the rubberized ties. Good idea.
Where’s my Chicken Dinner?
Thank you!
