What a bummer. They must be very disappointed.

Yes!
This is a new model “Model 18 LS” line source that they are going to be putting into production very soon, pretty much like how you see them here. The panels no longer have the woofer on the bottom.
There is a new tower with six 8" drivers on the front, two 6" drivers on the rear to create a cardioid pattern. Also in those towers are three Class D amps, 250w for the woofers, 250w for the mid panel, 100w for the tweeter, as well as active DSP for crossover, room correction, etc, etc.
The panels feature a new push/pull neodymium planar magnetic midrange and tweeter.
The Model 18 LS also gives you the option to run the midrange and tweeters with your own amplification if you like.
Unfortunately, I failed to take a picture of the rear of the system.
With all that said, it comes as no surprise that this was a very well sorted system and sounded excellent. Excellent stage width and depth, excellent imaging and very good dynamics. Bass was also very detailed, natural and extended.
Also, the two gentlemen showing the system were extremely friendly and informative, and once he got music playing, handed over the PS Audio remote for us to skip through songs and control the volume.
We were lucky to come up to their room right when a large group was leaving, so for around 30 minutes or more, it was just me and my family in there.
Here is a YouTube Video with the Tad speakers and a six pack of Rel No. 25’s.
Anyone had a chance to listen to the small Boenicke W5 bookshelf speakers in Computer Audio Design’s room 818? I was looking forward to hearing them as several European audio reviewers had written about them very favorably. Unfortunately FedEx hadn’t delivered them in time for opening day on Friday when we there for one day only.
MSB and Magico M2: Way good. And he was just spinning shiny discs.
The system did everything right imo, but especially midrange. Voices, cello, piano all wonderful.
But the M2 speakers cost more than my son’s BMW M2 Competition, so no.
I’m intrigued by the Shunyata Altaira grounding system, so I listened to them demo them several times over these three days. Yes, I could hear an improvement. No, I don’t think I’ll buy them.
They made an improvement, but not as significant as my recent interconnect upgrade. The improvement felt like the sort of thing that I would fail to notice after a day.
Ron….did they demo the chassis and signal ground separately or both? I’m only interested in the chassis grounding. BTW, bet your interconnects are about the same price as the grounding system. Thanks!!
Both
They’re now calling the chassis block as “analog” and the signal block as “digital”. I guess that makes sense.
How do you like your Typhon?
Thanks. I like it a lot. It makes the Denali function like, or maybe better, than an Everest. I have my pass amps plugged into the typhon and it adds a level of energy to the system that didn’t exist before. Plus, the form factor fits my system.
They did say that the combination Denali and Typhon outperforms the Everest.
It looks like someone over tightened the binding post plate. There appears to be a bead of either silicon adhesive pushing out along the top, or they have compressed the clear coat.
But it doesn’t look as bitchen.
I prefer things that sound nice!
Hey, what do I know?
Then again, what does he know?
My remaining show observations are a little bit of this, a little bit of that. Maybe a few additional pictures. If anyone is curious about anything not yet mentioned, just ask.
One room I forgot to photograph was Coastal Source. Apparently these folks have been in business for over 10 years. They make outdoor speakers. In a room they had their top model playing, and I kid you not it sounded competitive with some other very fine traditional high end speakers I’ve heard. Not cheap at $19K a pair, but for me this was the biggest surprise of the show. If you didn’t know what they were my guess is most people would have walked away pretty impressed.
What is funny, is these $100,000 speakers physically resemble my $3000 Infinity Modulus speakers. And that $3000 included a powered subwoofer
Like every room, Andrew Jones chose music that was dynamic first and foremost, to show off the dynamic range of his Mofi Sourcepoint 10 speakers.
I must say, I was thinking about where could I put them in my house.
But then I asked him to play Miles Davis’ “Bags Groove”, my favorite Miles album. And again I was astonished, this time about how lifeless and disappointing they sounded. Maybe it was Quobuz, but yeesh, awful! It was bizarre.
Interesting. I hear them, but at a decent volume. I like that my TAD’s sound nice at low levels.
Great album and a fine selection to test out a pair of speakers.
