Florida International Audio Expo reports

Ah. I didn’t have the opportunity to get a good listen with stuff I’m familiar with. Although he did play Bluesville and that came through quite nicely. But it is a dynamic piece.

I heard the same. Maybe it was that HiFi Rose amp/streamer. Or maybe it was just a horrible copy of Bags Groove.

I think for the most part, Andrew Jones was using local files, not Qobuz as all of the exhibitors were having streaming issues with the lack-luster wifi in the building.

It had to be the recording.

I have never paid much attention to that brand as never heard them. I do not put much stock in youtube videos and hearing/judging speakers, but I watched the Jays Lab video of that room. You could get a judge that this room sounded different/better than his other videos. I would love to hear them. Store about 20min from my daughter sells them…wonder if they have demo room. Guess next time in Jacksonville visiting I may take a drive to find out.

I know Andrew Jones used to design speakers for TAD. I’m not sure if he designed the speakers in the video. I would never recommend any video to judge sound quality. I like sharing them because I think it’s cool seeing them in the home environment. I watched it mostly because I’m one subwoofer away from 50% with my REL six pack lol. I also noticed he has his REL’s behind the listening position and on piano movers I thought that was interesting.

For sure, I just noticed something different in the one from the expo this week. Caught my interest. Plus he was raving about them in the video. He has a touch of ADD when it comes to speakers, but he has heard most in his room than many can dream of. The video you linked his system look fabulous. His rels are near the amps…so the speaker wire is very long to the TAD’s.

Does anybody remember the name of the exhibitor who was demonstrating titanium and zirconium bars on top of their amps?

Sad, after seeing your post I put it up, and mine is fine, very fine indeed.

Ron, any notion of where they were in the building? I may be able to dig up a picture.

Jay has a come to Jesus moment and is now in love with the MBL101 MkII’s.

The MBL room was one of the last rooms we visited. Naturally, the room was packed and I was standing along side the diffusers next to the door. Even all the way off to the left and standing, I was still getting great sound from this system.

If I could afford it, I would buy that system. It was a natural, engaging, fun sound.
Luckily for me, so is my system, so I can eat another day.

It was between these and the Clarisys Auditorium for me.

Of the two, MBL for me, even with its teensy LF anomaly I heard at certain volumes.

Having heard the scaled down version at Axpona 2022 I’d say they are fine for a smaller space. I believe that smaller system in the room off to the side was the Noble Line consisting of the Radialstrahler mbl 120, N51 Integrated Amplifier, and CD/DAC mbl C31.

I do like MBL, and once years ago tried to buy just the top section of the 101’s (no woofer cabinet) which they use to sell that way a long time ago, but had stopped by that time.

However, As much as I like the spacial information, at least at the volumes they are played at shows, I find them to sound a bit hard in the mids and highs.

And this is coming from someone who’s speakers have beryllium midrange and tweeter!

Anyone visit the TAD room?
Seems to be a favorite with many.
Jay was over the top with his impressions, which is saying a lot considering all the Ultra hi end gear he’s owed over the years.

See my post somewhere above for TAD. I’ll add, having heard them a few more times during the show, that I felt (compared to some of the other uber high end speakers) the TADs (both the large and the small) have a bit of dynamic reticence to them. Like my observation about the MBL quirk I heard, it’s small but it’s there. I guess my feeling is for these kinds of dollars, there shouldn’t be any weaknesses in what the speaker is doing. Some may choose one over another for any number of reasons, but these flagship or near flagship jobs should do everything they do, in the way they do it, with nothing to cause any forehead wrinkling. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
