I have zero tolerance for anything Focal. Sad but true.
But this model can rotate and radiate heat, when you turn it mute.
Glad to see Focal put their extensive active speaker knowledge into a high-ish end consumer speaker.
Very cool!
$40k seems a bit extreme…
@stonefree1911 As an active speaker fan, I agree the $40,000 is a bit extreme.
As we’ve all discussed, active speakers don’t offer the benefit of distributing failure risk across separate components. With active speakers like the KEF LS50 or LS60 ($2,500 USD to $5,000 USD), failure or repair can be more tolerable than $40,000 USD (FOCAL).
PS Audio Active Speakers?
Just seeing the Focal Diva info. Interesting concept, a high-end active speaker. There are not so many of these. On the one hand, one loses the ability to select and upgrade components. On the other hand, integration allows the company to fully optimize the whole chain - which might improve quality to a level that separates could not achieve. Now that PS Audio has speakers, amps, dacs and source, do they have all the ingredients for an active speaker as well? How much better could an active FR20 sound as an active speaker with optimized electronics? I’d be very curious.
Yeah the philosophy of an all in 1 appeals to many. That category of a electronics is coming more and more. Here many have gone Integrated Amp vs separates. Same reason. this takes to the next level. Of course you have to like the Focal sound first, and then be willing to live with the electronics for a while. And here, the price is pretty steep. Naim and Focal are not cheap.
