Re: removing the Muon Pro from the SW10, agree the soundstage collapses somewhat and things get a little hazy. It is not quite as drastic for me but I have an MU1 and having an external DAC might reduce the sensitivity slightly.
The MU2 is part computer. Every computer on the planet needs an occasional unplug and reboot. No big deal.
It is because MU2 sit on the top of three very heavy Mapleshade Brass Cones, and it is slippery when I touched it. When I plugged/unplugged the cable it moved too much so the heavy power cord disengaged. It was due to my setup rather than MU2’s issue. I should have thought of it before I wrote my post.
ahhh gotcha.
@adifferentpaul no offense but that’s rather dated thinking. modern hardware and operating systems are far more stable than in the past, and uptimes of hundreds of days are the expectation. doesn’t mean rebooting isn’t still beneficial occasionally, but it’s largely unnecessary, especially for a closed system like the Grimm running ROCK. (Also my MU1 is the same “computer,” just without the DAC in the MU2, and never needs rebooting.)
You can think that is dated thinking, but being a computer guy, I have never seen a computer that has not benefitted from a good reboot.
indeed.
computers are more reliable now than before, but still random blocks of memory frazzle. a reboot gets the blocks all on the right page, a fresh start.
We can move on from this non sequitur
it was unrelated to the issue anyway, which if it had been an actual issue would have been hardware related a la some cheap improperly grounded electronics that reboot in the wintertime due to static discharge.
(And yes, we are all “computer guys”
)
Among all the switches out there the Tempus is still the one that combines so many beautiful characteristics. And in addition with Muon Pro the synergies add up. The Muon Pro alone has been a great improvement in about 20 systems (ranging from mid to absolute high end) I was able to test it so far.
But it’s good to see awareness for filters and switches increases in the HiFi industry.
I put a Tempus back in my shopping cart. Hearing how good the SW10 Pro is has somewhat ironically increased my interest in a showdown with the Tempus. I guess if it wins, I could always use the LHY switches in other systems…
Thanks!
I’ll be watching for your review.
Nice to see that this comparison might happen. I like the build quality of the SW10Pro but also favor those, like Network Acoustics, that have been one of the leaders in this technology. It’s easier to “reverse engineer” a product than to invest and create a novel design. There is also the incentive for the initiator to stay ahead of the pack and offer upgrades or additional models, as NA has done.
Agreed, in general I am not one to reward imitators though there is of course nothing wrong with healthy competition making things more accessible for people. But the best is still the best even if the competition gets close. We shall see if that holds here.
The Tempus has been ordered.
It fully hit me after hitting “pay” that with current exchange rates, this was a nearly USD $5k purchase…
I’ll just keep rationalizing the same way I did when my home renovations blew through their budgets… that inflation will only make these things more expensive while devaluing my cash in hand, so better to just blow the money now… ![]()
You folks spend so much money on audio gear!! Yikes!
But then last night I was experiencing, not merely listening to, a $2M system and time and again I shouted out “WoW!!” . It was overwhelming, I had to stop.
I’ll listen to my system again in three or four days.
what a public service, purchasing both the SW10Pro and Tempus for a shootout
Thanks! I thought I’d would have to buy a SW10P so myself and @straightwire could compare to Tempus! It could still happen but it may wait till the tariff sheriff is gone.
may be on strike until then
Yeah, the Tempus and other European products get more expensive due to the 15% tariff, but, in the case of Great Britain, the exchange rate is a killer too. It’s about 1.35 USD to 1 GBP. The tariff plus the historically low dollar is a double whammy.
the lesson is clearly “from here on out, buy all imported high-end gear ASAP”
lol. you’re welcome.
