For LHY SW-10Pro fans

Maybe @straightwire could answer this but I believe the newest power supply that comes with the Tempus is the same power supply as the origin power supply.

Uh, so… I added the $76 D-Link DMS-105 to the mix. My Ubiquiti switch has 2.5Gbps ports, and the D-Link hooked up at full speed (blue link light).

Since this is going off the rails, I started a new thread: Switch mania: LHY, Tempus and… DLink?

I was under the assumption that the Origin and updated/current power supply for the Tempus was the same. Maybe not. NA told me that I should get improvements with the Origin put in place of the stock power supply. Hmmm. I have sent them an inquiry. I am not at home to
test it.

There is a statement from Network Acoustics on WBF: ā€žThe tempus PSU was specifically designed for the tempus switch. While Origin adopted a similar design philosophy, it was up rated to be compatible with a wider range of digital devices, such as ISP routers, modems, switches, DDC, DACs, streamers, and media converters.ā€œ

I have received information from NA confirming your assessment of the Origin. It is ā€œessentially the sameā€ as the Tempus ps but has be upgraded to power higher voltage units.

But does the Origin make the Tempus sound better than the original Tempus supply? It shouldn’t if I understand things correctly.

I also think that a power supply has a decisive influence on the sound. I initially used a Sbooster for my Melco S100 Switch. Inspired by the forum here, I then opted for the best power supply I could get, a Farad Super 10. As if that wasn’t enough for me, I also ordered it with a DC silver cable. I’m currently using a Furutech DPS 4.1 as my power cable, as it gives me more depth in the soundstage and a more natural sound than with an Audioquest Dragon. The streaming experience has benefited enormously. The soundstage expands in all dimensions. The macro and micro dynamics have benefited greatly.

Great to hear! The Super10 is absolutely amazing and transforms every device. So exciting to see every time what a power supply can do to switches, streamers, DACs etc.

According to NA, the Tempus with the original ps would benefit from the Origin. The current Tempus has a MkIl version ps that came out several months ago. Older models were upgradable to the new ps for a reasonable fee. A nice offering.
Rob at NA says there might be some improvement with an Origin on a Tempus with the latest supply but probably splitting hairs here.

You have an Origin don’t you? Did you try it on your Tempus or immediately put it on your modem? What did you hear?

I put it on the modem but was having some compatibility issues that NA is looking into.
It works on the Tempus with no issues, but I was not listening for changes, rather to see if the unit was operational. Seems my modem is funky.
So, I failed proving feedback on the Origin with a modem, or the Tempus. I will get back to it when I get back home after the 17th. Review pending .

And you probably still haven’t pointed Roon at that external hard drive.

What am I going to do with you??!!

a MK2?!

Not an LHY-10 thing but my FMC just crapped out. It was super hot and they say it was in hang mode…not sure. They are telling me they think its the optospan SFP unit., Telling me to get a finisar 1318. I ordered and will try. Lucky I had my SW6 still with me. Using that as a converter for now.

Sorry to hear! I wonder what could explain that difference in temperature between the sfp’s.

Any meaningful difference in SQ, now using the SW6?

No DAC :frowning:

I got back home yesterday and noticed something when attempting to compare switches that I’m not sure is just me hearing things or some actual phenomenon…

I leave the Tempus in most of the time, and switching to anything else always sounds like a substantial downgrade. But when I get around to plugging the Tempus back in, it doesn’t sound as good as I remembered at the starting point of the session. In general, if I plug things in and out a lot, everything starts to sound kind of similar…

I think Furutech and others have said that cables/connections need time to settle in after being disturbed. I’m not sure if this is what I’m hearing - anyone else have similar observations?

Ime that’s the case. Any time I move or change something, things take about a day to normalize–footers being the most recent example that comes to mind.

Yes in my experiences. Also clocks etc are mostly very sensible to movement, changes etc

Footers for sure, especially if they have any elastomer that needs to settle in with the load. I did not think any of this network stuff would be so sensitive…

I’ll keep the SW-10 Pro plugged in today, then switch back to the Tempus tonight and listen tomorrow.
