I have have been thinking about purchasing a pair of FR20’s on the current trade-in program. My questions is what do folks think about my electronic pairing? and how would the FR20’s sonicly compare to my current loudspeakers? The electronics are an Accuphase C-2900 preamp, Accuphase P-4600 power amp (150 W / 8 ohms, 300 W / 4 ohms, 450 W / 2 ohms, damping factor of 800). The current loudspeakers are T+A Criterion TCD 210s. These speakers are transmission-line floor-standing loudspeakers. The mid/high section uses two 6.7-inch midrange drivers in a D’Appolito (MTM) configuration with a 1-inch dome tweeter and there are two 8.7-inch woofers. Published spec’s are frequency response: 25 - 35,000, sensitivity: 88 dB, impedance: 4 ohms. Also the system has a single REL S/510 subwoofer. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Rather doubt there will be anyone that can make a direct comparison between the FR20’s and what you currently have. BUT, I have had the FR10’s and now have two sets of the FR20’s (two locations) and if your budget would permit either (only you can tell) I would suggest that if you go with the FR10’s, you never listen to the FR20’s. The advantage of the FR20’s is profound. And, interestingly, the difference is not where you might suspect in the low end but smack in the middle. I won’t bore you with all of those audiophile adjectives—just that the realism imparted by the 20’s is dramatically better. I even added a REL S/812 for the 10’s but that really didn’t help. And now with the 20’s, I am not sure the sub adds anything (but then I listen to mostly jazz and classical). In fact, if anyone in the central Texas area wants the sub, I would let it go at a very good price (complete with latest wireless add-on).
I cannot compare the FR20’s to your current speakers, but the FR20’s are my endgame speakers. Open, dynamic, transparent, imaging monsters, and work nicely with a REL carbon special.
I need you guys to stop so effectively promoting the FR20s.

Well then, how about the FR30s ?
For me, pair of REL subs are a great addition to FR20…
We all have budget limits. Never heard of anyone who could buy lasting world peace.
I have spent time with your T+A speakers. They are so very nice and more than a little unique. I have an extremely high opinion for the FR20 and FR30 speakers. The nice thing is, both have the same things I appreciate the most about them. The midrange and tweeter drivers. Second to none. Outstanding! As a bonus, they both do nicely on the bottom as well. They are, at the very least, th equal to what you have now. BUT! They are not the same. No sir. The line source aspect of your current speakers, and the many adjustments they offer is all very tasty and unique to T+A speakers. Once you acquire a taste for them, it may be tough to switch.
With the FR20 and FR30 speakers I can only say, If the mids and highs are not a line source, WTH is a line source. With the FR30 you get a rear firing tweeter that may be useful to you. Yes. It’s a nice tweak. FR20 doesn’t have it I believe.
If you want to be safe, order the FRxO speakers before you sell your T+A speakers. Actually, I can’t imagine a good reason to sell them. Anyway, both the 20s and 30s are end game worthy. If you are interested in end game. I never will be.
BTW, I am envious of your Accuphase gear. Yummy! No need to worry about ever changing those pieces out. And the T+A speakers I was thinking of are further up the line. 5 midrange horns and god knows how many tweeters, six? So ignore my thoughts on yours. I haven’t heard those.
