FR20 or B&W 802D

These look interesting and may be a good value given their relatively modest price.

I like the idea of using metal with ceramic balls, I have those type of footers supporting PST and Lumin U2 and they do wonders. However, not all components benefit from them. For MK2 and BHK pre Orea does better. I will probably order those pads from AliExpress. They look really well built and should do a better job than the stock pads.

I spent all day yesterday (with my daughter’s help) to see if I could box my speakers. It took a full day to install pads and protections, and I ran out of material so I could only do one:

I spent so much effort to box one, and I do not want to take it out anymore. So, the main system is shut down until RF-30 shows up. The music from HT system was bearable today.

A big move is never easy. FWIW, I was able to uncarton and move the FR30’s by myself. It did require cutting the large unit box down for access but a little patience and ingenuity got me there. The sliders supplied with the 30’s work pretty well to fine tune the position as well. Have fun.
I wish I could enlist my daughter to help in the move(s). Takes a little sting out of those tuition bills.

According to my research, this would be an optimal coaster onto which the spikes are coupled.
He uses a mixture of nets and magnets.
After I saw that Hifi2die4 also chose these among their FR 30, I am confident that these SSC big magic-point will do a good job.

Darn! I just put in the order from AliExpress like 30 min. ago for the ones I posted earlier.

I cannot find any place in the US selling these, and I do not know if this site sells to the US.

Edit: I requested a cancel from AliExpress, and I am waiting for confirmation that orders are indeed cancelled. These SSC big discs look interesting. I sent them an email for more details.

Damn Donald. You didn’t mean to be so hasty.:joy: I can ask my dealer again what they recommend. I also looked and there isn’t a lot of information on the internet. They probably also make bases for the B&W 801 and Nautilus. The SSC company will definitely send you some if you send them an email and will advise you. If these feet are well suited, perhaps PS Audio will include them in the program. If you want it, there is definitely a way. Greetings Andreas HiFi SSC - Magicpoint

Maybe you could write to Hifi2die4. The gentleman also has the PS Audio FR30 from the test and must have set it up meticulously during the pandemic. It looks like he has the speakers on a wooden floor because there are scratches in the floor even though it has a stone look. He can also tell you well what effects the feet have on the FR 30. By the way, it seems that he is the German distributor of PS Audio products. It should definitely work that he can send some.
Greetings Andreas

You’re welcome Donald. That’s what a forum like this is there for, to give others some support. But I’m also the type that I can’t wait and want everything at once. I was just thinking about the setup, and now I’m thinking about it again. Then it occurred to me that the Aliexpress parts with the silicone might be wobbly like rubber and sound like that. But I think that the gentleman from Hifi2die4 can help you. He has the FR 30 himself and uses the SSC underlays. Greetings Andreas

Beehive thinking  We could have infected Luca with it and you would have waited for his detailed review. :joy: I think the next thing we can do is an SR black box.:see_no_evil:

The FR20 is so gorgeous in white. Figured it was time to get out the DSLR…
(still not happy with the quality of the photo)

I would send you mine for a listen but I would have to move in with you while you have it.

I just saw Paul’s video on YouTube about midrange drivers.
In the video it looks visually as if the FR 20 has a larger planar midrange driver than the FR 30. Did I just miss it or is that how it is?

Talking to Chris at Axpona last year he told me the midrange driver on the FR20 was an improvement on the original FR30 design. He did say newer FR30s would use the new FR20 design and older FR30s can be upgraded. Chris never stops learning and improving. I am so impressed with him and his work!

Thank goodness I waited to order mine, and Straightwire needs an upgrade now😆

That’s (good) news to me! It occasionally pays to wait a short time before getting in on a new product …

p.s., I thought of taunting straightwire, but he’s a nice guy!

I believe Chris said the driver was an improvement, but maybe a little, not a lot. I have enjoyed many listens of Straightwires system, and he isn’t hurting as far as I can tell.
