FR5 First Impressions in Ordinary Listening Spaces

I think PS Audio mostly recommends AudioQuest speaker cables. Here’s info from their web site. Cables are certainly a personal preference. I’m using Moon Audio’s Black Dragon BiWire Speaker Cable with banana ends.

When Paul’s Reference AudioQuest Dragon ZERO Speaker Cables are not in the financial cards, it’s time to step up to the PerfectWave Robin Hood ZEROs from AudioQuest. These bad boys bring music to life as few cables can.

Hi Berg I will have some amazing update for you regarding my FR5 I am going to upgrade my speaker cable to AudioQuest Dragon Zero in about one week. I will get back to you soon. In the meantime, make sure you have your seatbelts ready because you and i will be taking an audiophile trip to the moon. LOL

Hi Huddy, if you are going to try these cables on FR 5, you must have a lot more money than common sence. :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Oh my Berg. I thought this was a “no put down” forum?

Hi Berg thanks for chatting. I am fortune not rich. My cables fell off the back of the truck and after careful examination there were no injuries so i purchase them for 95% off bargain. If you kill an ant and you take your time searching, you will find the intestines. Does all of this make sense to you of course not. Send me your email address and i will explain.

Definitely a cable not in my budget yet I’m certainly interested to read your feedback once you have them connected to your FR5s. Enjoy!

Hi John i will be willing to share my highly advance speaker wire configuration with you in about a week. It’s not only about the type of speaker cables but the way we connect them to our FR5 speakers. My secret will also work with any decent pair of (preferable high end) non-bi-wire cables.

Mr Huddy, I see two jumpers between each set of terminals. And this does what exactly?

hi, what you are looking at is call a bi-lateral double jump wire configuration. The result is deeper richer bass and with incredible detail and extended highs. The FR5 is the perfect speaker for this application.

The FR5 connected to the Dragon zero speaker cable is an overkill but for those who can experience this application will be transported to an audiophile galaxy beyond your wildest dreams simply mind-blowing sound quality.

Mr. Huddy, I can see that you have effectively increased the cross-section of copper wiring joining each pair of terminals, above that of the supplied jumpers. I can’t figure out how that could have any effect on an audiophile galaxy beyond my wildest dreams.

Hopefully the cables didn’t sustain major damage when dropped! Congrats on the steal! Oops. That was probably bad word choice. Congrats on the purchase. 95% off is probably less than the Ali Express fake dragons.

Just added PS Power Plant 12 to my setup absolutely mind-blowing sound quality.

Today i visited my audiophile friend who lives in Staten Island NY I sat and listen to his FR5 and the speakers literally disappeared, his room is 16x11 acoustically treated and i left the room speechless. The secret is placement he was able to find that sweet spot after experimenting with different placement location. I came back home and told my wife we need a new house with a dedicated room unbelievable sound from the new standard in stand mount speakers.

I’m very curious about these speakers.

But, would they overwhelm a space like this?

My current setup of my Elac UB52s.

Interesting to combine diagonal bi-wiring, which Nordost recommends with parallel bi-wiring. Synergistic happens to recommend connecting the amp to the HF terminals then parallel bi-wiring to the woofer inputs, which is what I’m currently doing. Prolly gonna try going back to diagonal bi-wiring one of these days just for fun…

I don’t think that they would overwhelm the space because they are only 0.5" taller and just over a 0.5" wider a little over an inch deeper (plus the terminals), so almost the same size.

They do play somewhat lower than your Elacs and so placement and seating location can be important because you’re potentially exciting more bass room modes (because they are more “full range”).

My only other comment would be that our tweeters work best with your ear level with the tweeter axis, so I would definitely recommend taller stands.
