When I was buying gear from The Cable Company Jason was pushing hard on the top line T+A gear. It just seemed too expensive but I was interested. A friend has a complete T+A system and I believe I could be very happy with that most impressive gear. It seems nice.
I think you would be. Actually, I think anybody would be. Not much not to like. But different strokes. I like thier design and feature set. Multiple menus but its all stuff one might use.
Also APM module:
In everyday practice room acoustics and the location of loudspeakers very often present problems. To help alleviate these difficulties we have developed an analogue signal processor module which offers channel-separate tone control and loudness functions combined with three parametric equalizers.
The latter can effectively damp narrow-band room resonance effects in the range 20 Hz to 500 Hz. In this way it is possible to obtain optimum sound quality even in problematic spaces. Naturally the unit contains relays which can be used to by-pass the functions completely. This module is installed as standard in the P 3000 HV, and can be fitted to the PA 3000 HV and PA 3100 HV integrated amplifiers as an option.
Compatible With:
PA 3000 HV
PA 3100 HV
Lived most of my life in Japan (until 2017), and had McIntosh the whole time - most of my serious audiophile friends there love the imports (although Esoteric is among the favored of the local brands), can’t recall a Luxman or Accuphase setup at a friend’s homes.
I brought my very first Mc set up (amp+preamp) as well as my Esoteric DV50 back to the U.S. and was running them all through step down transformers (still have them, now stored) and they sounded almost as good as back home (Jpn) through a pair of Dynaudios.
Used gear is super cheap in Japan actually (they haven’t started using ‘pre-owned’ lol) and the Japanese hifi brands are an even better deal used than the imports are used. And the gear is usually pristine as well as lighlty used (though most of my audiophile friends are whiskey drinkers and smokers).
You might not be able to read the details, but the below links to Rakuten Japan show some Accupahse and Luxman used offers - you can probably get enough info to see models and yen prices - which, given current fx rates make a ‘curiosity purchase’ that much easier to rationalize…
These are incredible prices for sure, but none of them are US standard probably. This trip will not involve any audio related shopping anyway🙁 My wife and younger daughter will make sure of that.
Last night we had late dinner at one of the few hundred beer houses in Nishishinjuku area. Even at 9:30pm most places were packed. We finally ate at a place on the outer side of the area. We had four alcohol drinks plus six small dishes, and the total bill came at $45! I can definitely get used to that. Wagyu beef dinner for tonight
Near “Nishiazabu” in Tokyo there are 2 great restaurants I have been going to for 20+ years:
-
Kougai Sushi (tripadvisor has a review and directions)
Owner is a friend but they don’t speak Eng so just say “Omakase Course” (we always end up paying less than ¥20,000 for 2 people, but my wife and I dont drink alcohol) and tell them you are a “friend of Stahh-san” , no R in Japanese lol, if you do go pls say hi from the Starrs) place is super small, fyi
tel:03-3797-0408 -
Shabugen in Nishiazabu (owner, Akiyama -san, is friend speaks Eng) my favorite Shabu-Shabu, think they have Eng menus…family friendly
tel 03-5474-0224
Thanks for the recommendation!
I wished we talked before we arrived here because we had a few reservations made through the hotel, so we may not have time to visit these nice local restaurants. But I will keep them for our future visits. This will not be our last visit of this beautiful country for sure.
Time to leave the hotel!
I’ve had fantastic, fantastic burgers made from wagyu beef
Donald, Donald… remember the promise you made: a few days away from this forum!
Enjoy your trip, my friend!
I look forward to learning of his experience(s) at the BlueNote and any other music related excursions.
Class A integrated. Very interesting.
I could easily be all about Accuphase. I am sad that I can’t.
I have deviated ftrom the hifi norm in that im running integrateds and enjoying it while still getting to play with dacs, sources etc.
Having had Accuphase (amps), i highly recommend. Beautiful quality build with a sound to match.
T+A makes a wonderful integrated in the 3100. Probably the best product ive had the pleasure of owning.
Latest = Pathos integrated. Beautifully designed and sounds great. Still new to me so working stuff out…
The Gryphon would be awesome im sure…
Looks like TMR may have made an error on the MSRP. At least I hope so, or I overpaid for mine
Best,
JP
If you are referring to Accuphase, that has been a topic for discussion. Seems pricing has fluctuated quite a bit
The the class A Accuphase E800 is stunning to be sure, providing a bit of added warmth. Partners well with Wilson Sabrina and Yvette series speakers. The Vitus RI-101 MkII is no slouch either.
US dealer MSRP is $19,975 set by the distributor Axxis Audio
Maybe this particular unit was one of those Audio Cube units? I would ask if I were interested in purchasing from TMR. Service would be denied by distributors and Accuphase
The Accuphase E-5000 is quite amazing I have to say. Actually Accuphase in the last 30 years never disappointed when listening to one of their models.
