It does speak DSD (with a plugin installed) and seemed to handle it ok when I tried it (via DoP with a RME ADI2) I just didn’t use it very much, as it seemed best to resample everything (including the DSD stuff) to e.g. 384/352 with my main DAC. It resamples on the fly (in the player, I haven’t tried the server-side resampling) to PCM if you want. I think it was DSD 256 I used, would have to check.
I use one Squeezelite player at 24/192 or sometimes 24/96 max with a SPDIF HAT, and the other up to 768 kHz SR on USB (the latter being a Pi4).
I found it best to resample / upsample everything to something that suits the particular DAC I’m using at the time
Harman isn’t a software company. There must be something on their roadmap that includes streaming. Perhaps it’s RAAT. Maybe it’s a scaled down version of Roon on firmware inside an integrated or a Home Theater receiver.
If it goes sideways, we do have other choices. I’d prefer Roon to survive, but given the choice between losing my espresso machine or Roon, espresso wins every time.
One article I saw (Technobezz) suggests that some of the synergies may be with Samsung Mobile:
Enno Vandermeer, CEO of Roon, emphasized the benefits of joining forces, gaining scale, resources, and the reach of a global technology leader. While Roon retains its independence for business growth, it brings its expertise in data management and consumer engagement to all of Harman’s partners, including Samsung Mobile. This collaboration signifies a union of strengths, promising an enriched audio experience for consumers across various devices.
Be aware that Jura’s typically last five years. There’s some repair options, but limited. For that price you can get a very nice and repairable espresso machine.
If you want to make a change and want to geek out a bit in the morning, I suggest you get an espresso machine and start making Caffe Americano, Long Black, Machiatto, Cappuccino, Caffe Latte, and Espresso.
Once you have your process down it won’t take much more than five minutes to make a drink. The taste will be your reward every day.
I run every day on Caffe Americano (not Dunkin’s, yuk). I take it from home or Starbucks but best from a machine like yours, or just about any place in Italy.
Coffee making is a funny thing for me. In reality I spend 10 minutes from start to cleanup making two Americano and typically drinking only half of the second. It sets the tone for rest of the day. Ten minutes for sixteen hours, not a bad investment.
Roon Radio, which I originally couldn’t imagine a use for, is my current favorite way to listen. It seems the way I have it tuned it knows what I like. The interesting new thing, it has been including new releases from the last thirty days or so. New music, from new to me artists, that I very much enjoy. I believe it is finally, radio the way it should be. It’s more than useful. It’s entertaining.
Up until recently I was still using my grandmother’s Moka pot. It did as good a job as the big arse imported from Italy machine in my father’s restaurant - except for the steaming of milk, of course.Since we’ve moved to an induction top stove, I’ll have to find a different way to do my Italian coffee. I suspect I’ll just try to find an induction capable Moka.
I was blissfully unaware of the sheer extent of the various parallel coffee rabbit holes (espresso machine, grinder, roaster) when my first trip to Bologna introduced me to the Real Thing.
As a result my present machine cost more than the Mk2 DAC.
Airplay is supported by Roon as you stated, but Eversolo is Android at its base. So it streams via an Apple app. Apple did not open API for it. Their app is supported via the custom Android OS Eversolo runs under.
To the best of my knowledge, the only outside, non-Android system Apple has opened the API to is Sonos, and the interface within the Sonos app ain’t great. If you’re searching from the base Sonos search box, it’s fine, but otherwise it is pretty terrible.
Right now I depend upon an AeroPress. Much like I came late to both motorcycles and audiophile gear, I came late to coffee. Sad because I could have been a far more effective Air Force officer had I been running on coffee instead of Pepsi. I’m a late bloomer I guess.
Thanks for the hints. Right now my AeroPress fuels the morning. It’s my only alternative to the execrable Keurig someone brought in and left, presumably because it makes the worst coffee known to man. That’s really sad about the Jura reliability. Same with Kitchen Aid mixers now. I’d really like kitchen appliances that last more than five years.
Funny you should say that. I have an engineer friend who spent a few years with Whirlpool / Kitchen aid / Maytag making sure that 5 years was the life of the machine. Not 25 years or more as they had been up until that point in time.
