I first disconnected 16, because in one if its modes, the Red was using it. Accidentally cut 14, too
This was not changing anything. So I tried 15, which I found in another thread here in this forum, together with the schematics of how the DMP uses the HDMI connector.
It only worked after cutting 15, but you are right, of course, it could be any combination of the three as long as it involves 15.
What? I missed something, because thought you mentioned keeping the Red above recently. Does the Bartok have these integrated?
I am keeping the Red for my separate headphone rig.
The Bartok has itās own version of a Bridge. dCS at one time made an outboard Bridge, but for all three levels of DACās they each have a Bridge either internal to the DAC or in a separate box. For instance in the Vivaldi, the Bridge is built into the external Upsampler.
dCS has itās own rabbit hole.
I saw this on the Roon forum today:
I was lurking on the Weiss site (as I do sometimes, I just love their pro ADC2 box).
I noticed that they do āconsumerā gear too now, including many with a built in bridge/streamer (ānetwork rendererā) - taking a leaf from DCSās book I guess?
I think some of it is a convenience factor for customers. My guess is that thereās very few people out there like we have here on the forum that are willing or capable of having a little box for this and another little box for that, a cable for this and a cable for thatā¦etcā¦
Plus thereās lots of techniques now to eliminate noise within a chassis, or at least lower it significantly. Once you get to a certain level of gear, sure thereās benefits of moving the Master Clock, Bridge, etc to another box, but even then a lot of the connections between those boxes is a simple umbilical.
AH me I love the cables and boxes and choices, but I think because it reminds me of my āglory daysā * behind a mixing desk ![]()

It was non-famous, under paid and under fed, but good fun for a young 'un ![]()
Holo red continues to impress. Only have about 80 hours on it, but its sound is as good as the others I have owned. Also just used as DDC for my Focus Fidelity software which does not work directly into USB of MKII and it found it first time. This is a keeper for me just for that reason alone of added value in my use case. The Stack Link II with LPS sounds incredibly similar but is not a DDC. I would have been happy with either. Guess it time to list the Stackā¦
Thanks for the update Brian.
I have not yet definitively determined the Holo Red is (consistently) a ābetterā streamer than the Bridge II Ethernet card in my system with may PSA DS DAC.
My next critical listening steps (I have just been generally using and enjoying the system the last few days) are to remove the Bridge II from the DAC and continue with some casual and critical listening for a few days; and then to put the Bridge II back in and swap out the Holo Red.
If I like the Bridge II just as much as, if not better than, the Holo Red when it goes back in, I will have a bit of a conundrum to deal with. My longer term plans are to add the JK Richardsā internal power supply board (displacing the Bridge card) use a streamer (the Red or something else). But if the Redās head-to-head performance with the Bridge is not clearly better than I am not sure what I will do.
The fact that I have to give up decoding and rendering MQA files with the Red is a factor to consider. MQA is not the be all/end all in performance but Tidal MQA files I listen to from time to time are often enough better than the other files of the same recording available on my āhard drivesā, Qobuz and Tidal.
More to comeā¦
Scott, if you choose to go with the Red and need Jeffās PS board, give me a PM.
Hi all, I tried Holo Red with DS MK1 and BridgeII included. The Red was already broken in. initially the SQ was very poor, the soundstage was tiny and poorly focused. We tried to change the operating system. We used the Moode operating system, copying it to the sd-card and everything improved. I used both USB, RCA and I2S input. I2S is definitely more performing, although the deemphasis triangle appears. I made various comparisons with the Bridge. the RED came out on top with the Bridge inserted. The soundstage is deeper and bigger, the microdetails more audible. the Red convinced me. I will soon try to remove the Bridge. These are my impressions. Good music.
Thanks Francesco. Please give us an update after the BridgeII has been removed.
Has anyone been successful in getting rid of the PCM de-emphasis flag? Do we know for sure if the flag is even accurate?
Thanks
The flag goes away, for me, if I use a Pink faun Interlink I2S cable instead of a Revelation Audio Labs I2S cable.
FYI.
Does the flag only come on when playing a CD or cannot come on from streaming? What is the flag indicator on the MKII.
Does the flag only come on when playing a CD (No) or cannot [sic] come on from streaming? (Yes)
Inhave mine set off. I want to make sure I should not be looking to see if it comes on. I now use the RAL cable and want to make sure itās not something I should be looking for. I donāt think it should be. Guessing you guys have it on and itās being used when it should not be.
Iām sticking with the Pink faun to avoid the P-E flag/function.
I also leave the screen on the DAC off though.
For those with the Mk2, what color is the little dot in the top right corner for you while playing through i2s with the red? Mine is red. Had a green light before when using the USB on a raspberry pi streamer.
Itās been mentioned a few times that with I2S the light is only green with PS Audio devices connected. And it is not a worry assuming the base switch pattern is right for a PS Audio DAC. I once went a day with left and right channels swapped until I noticed the bass player was not on the same side as in the picturesā¦
