Holo Red impressions

Since red lights are the universal indicator of danger, it makes total sense that a perfectly good connection that is playing music throws a red light.

What’s next? Red stop lights mean “go”?

I think in this case it’s one of those “except on Tuesdays” things. Fizbin, you know.

Hi jtereck.
When you have a red indicator showing (meaning a non-PSA source is connected, not that the DAC is in imminent danger of exploding) you will not see an indication of bit depth & sample rate in the display.
This is a known UI bug and should be addressed in the next firmware release due around 10 April.

I was using a Matrix 2 with I2S to the MK2 and hand a green light.
I replaced that with a Silent Angel streamer and now it’s red

It’s red for my Mano streamer too.

A more technical description from Ted re red vs green… “The software checks to see if the “connector present” line is set on the HDMI socket”.
So PSA I2S sources set the “connector present” line.
Others may or may not. It’s a crap shoot. I don’t think there is standards body certifying implementations of I2S over HDMI. If there is, they are not doing a very good job

Hi all, I performed the RED test by disconnecting the BridgeII. I felt a further slight improvement in micro-details and a deeper holographic image. However the differences are minimal and audible only by those with a very trained ear.
Question: inserting the BridgeII in a box with adequate power supply and I2S output, would I get the same acoustic improvements? I think yes!
However, as things stand, RED vs BridgeII is a winner, for my hearing
Good day

I think that is a PS Audio conspiracy. With customers who were waiting to buy an AirLens now buying Silent Angels, PS Audio’s army of software coders must of put the Silent Angels onto some kind of red-light enemy list.

See Markus posts above for real answers

I continue to be impressed with the Red. The build quality is unbelievable. Its a very simple design inside and well implemented. Setup was super easy. It updates itself (a big win over my older Sonore which had not had update in years and you have to order a new card from them) with push of a button. Zero sync issues with DAC. Best of all it has great sound. Add the fact that its a DDC when needed (and I need that to tune) its a winner in my book and staying. Selling the Stack w/ LPS this week.

I am glad it’s worked out for you. It is an amazing device. To me it seems like an improved version of all of the Sonore xxRendu’s.

Kitsune studied the marketplace and has come up with a winner.

Hey, I’m just happy to start hearing that the Red appears to be at least as good as (if not a bit better than) a Bridge II and the xxRendus. It’ll keep me going (whenever it does arrive!) while the waiting for this Air Lens thing I keep hearing about. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Looking to continue my listening comparisons between the Red and the Bridge this evening and I noticed there is an indicator that an update is available for the Red.

When I click on the update button on the Red’s home page, the progress bar just “sits there” showing 0% with no indication that the software is downloading/updating.

Any one else having trouble with the latest FW release? Here is a screen shot:

I get the same. I refreshed the page and it came back but dropped the status box. Tried again. Same thing. I will try tomorrow

Brian:

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I’ll try one more time in a bit.

Scott

I checked and it’s still streaming thank god.

For me it worked.

Exactly the same. Does nothing. I try tomorrow

Update still a no-go this morning…but is working just fine otherwise.

Same here. Wondering if a reboot first would help. Almost afraid to try that.

Multiple reboots made no difference.

Red still works but update goes nowhere.

I’ll check again this evening.

FYI.

I tried without rebooting - didn’t work.
I tried rebooting - didn’t work.
I power cycled - didn’t work.
