@Rudolf_Appel - I just went on contract to build a house two times the size of my present house. Music room area will double; also volume will increase going from 10ft ceiling to 12ft ceiling. I think I will be getting a nice TT in a few years… the reason I’ve designed my present system. A nice TT is in the cards… no pun intended…
We had a real nice listening / living room in Texas, high popcorn sealing. Probably also 12 ft at its highest point, then slope down to approx 7 ft. Popcorn sealing is real old fashion but it makes for a great diffusor, eliminating those room modes. Also we had enough of Square footage to move the speakers around, off the wall. Curtains were IKEA, but great absorbers in front of the windows.
So that room was the best audio upgrade I ever had on my system, here the same system back in The Netherlands.
Speakers way too close to the wall, squeezed between the doors. But the real estate just isn’t available / affordable in our small but fine country.
In the US I had this system on a big lighting and overvoltage arrestor and 2.5 kVA step up (115 Vac - 230 Vac). All US made and UL approved, not the literally overrated unapproved transformers you can buy cheap on the Internet and which potentially burn down the house because the wiring couldn’t take the rated current for as long as the CD lasts.
Anyway long story short, you are up for a major sound improvement if you are able to dress / treat larger room right. Enjoy.
Yup, pretty impressive. I just, early this afternoon, stepped further into the PS audio ecosystem. Frankly, I never thought that I’d be one of those guys with matching hi fi gear. As it stands, I’ve got the PSA Directstream, the Memory Player and now the BHK Signature Preamp. I am now a convert to synergy- the propensity for matched equipment to work together to produce fine music. I moved from a very good preamp, the Ayre k-5xe mp to the BHK.
Ten minutes after turning on the pre, I had to adjust the bass volume on my REL S/812 - too high. But, even with the bass volume down a bit, this pre is sending along something that helps my Salons and the REL’s to dig deeper. I’ve never had tube equipment in my setup and, I already like it. John Darko’s describes some sounds as wetter. To Darko’s thinking, I’d add that, with the BHK, the whole listening experience has become deeper with a very, very clearly defined soundstage and that seems like an apt description of the effect of the BHK on my system.
Excellent! Can’t wait to hear what you think after the system’s had a chance to burn in.
If you think the BHK pre sounds good now, wait until it’s fully broken in.
BTW this is also true of the BHK… I now kick myself for previously turning off the tubes. In my experience the tube section (currently running top spec Tungsram 6922s) takes multiple hours for the full magic. So now (since I’m home like everyone and listening a lot) I never turn it off. Worth an extra set of tubes every year.
What amp are you using?
An Ayre Vx-5 Twenty.
