How can I paly DSD256 files purchased from HDTT

HI, I have a Dell XPS PC with downloaded DSD?DSF256 music files from HDTT. I have a J River media player program on PC.

question : How do I connect PC’s USB C output to DSD MK2?

Do I need an adaptor or Box to connect USB-C to IS2 input on Dac.??

I understand firm ware USB port in back of DAC is for firm ware update.

DSD Mk2 i2s input usually requires an HDMI cable compatible for i2s.

You just need a USB C to USB B cable. You can ignore the existence of I2S on the MK2. Its USB input is quite good. With the MK1 I2S was required. Not so with the MK2.

I think you may also need to install the PS Audio USB driver on your PC, if you haven’t already done so. It’s available from their download pages. I’m not all that familiar with J River. I’m assuming it knows how to read .dsf files and pass the (native DSD) bit stream onto the selected USB-connected device (the Mk2) via DSD over PCM (DoP)?

You do need to install the driver in Windows. This is discussed in the manual, with a troubleshooting page at the end which gives the most detailed instructions. This driver will appear as “PSA extended resolution“ device (an earlier version does not have the “extended“ description).

JRiver will play DSD files just fine, 1-bit perfect. You will need to select “DSD” in the Audio Options under Bitstreaming: and you will need to include DSD Audio under File Types since these are not default settings. As noted by others, you will need the appropriate USB driver for your DAC. When installed, select it under Audio Device. In the screen shot below you will see the USB driver for my DAC (shown as AKDesign Audio). Yours will be different.

When playing a DSD file, this is what you should see when you hover over the gear icon:
