Got mine! Download went smoothly. I’m firing it all up right now!
Holy smokes…ditto about the differences between Torreys and Huron…totally different sounding DAC…HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO MADE HURON HAPPEN. Just replaying some of my favorites and smiling like the Chesire Cat.
The PS Audio M700s are clearly limited only by the signal fed to them!!!
Hi all!
Have some questions;
Is the Bridge II update included with Huron? If not where or how I get it ? What is the new version for Bridge II?
Have a nice Huron night

oll
The update to the Bridge will come a little later - the updates to the DS’s display/control processor that are needed to deal with MQA are in Huron so Huron is ready for the either the old bridge code or the new.
what transport are you guys using the new DMP or PWT, I have the PWT ,PAUL will there be a sound differ. with HURON when using the PWT or DMP
One thing I like about Torrey’s is it’s depth of soundstage. Can someone comment on a Huron / Torrey’s soundstage depth compare?
I’m an hour into it and it is blissful on every account! What an upgrade!!!
Simple, no issues upgrade! I just fired it up so impressions tomorrow. Looking forward to a fun evening!
I haven’t had a a chance to mess with Huron… Stanley Cup finals come first… Go Pens!!!
For the first time ever I was at home when a new firmware was released!
Seems Paul & company knew when I was away and chose that time to release!
Glad that streak is over. The download and install went fine, though the flashing light on the DS seemed to go on for a little longer than usual, then on Initialization the progress bar did nothing, then Bam, it was done. Sound wise, well the folks above have done a pretty good job of describing what I hear; definitely cleaner sound, more space between the notes, better bass, and just plain aaaahhhhhhh, that sounds nice! Ted nailed it on this one!
One comment, a while back while we were discussing the display of the DMP, Paul said they were going to change it in the next firmware update. Still waiting for that update (not that I’m needling you …), but I thought Paul said they were also going to change the display of the DS in it’s next firmware update. Looking at the display with Huron, I see no difference whatsoever. Did I remember wrong or was that change dropped?
Installation seemed to go fine but now the volume on my DS will not go above 73. It will go down and back up but stops at 73. It’s not just a display issue–the volume is really down by that much. I went back to Torreys, reset the volume to 100, and reinstalled Huron (new download on a different, reformatted SD card) but the same thing happened.
Suggestions?
Have you checked the settings page to make sure you do not have the maximum allowable volume set to 73?

What level should the bridge be? Mine says 2.7.11. How do you update it?

You nailed it… Spot on with the improvements everyone else has covered Wow Wow Wow
And yes more soundstage depth seperation and a new audio experience overall!!!
Thank you for your determined and focused effort to produce such a wonderful update to an already phenomenal DAC… the musicality you have exposed make my Sonus Fabers sound incredible…
And I’m listening to redbook Wow
Just loaded Huron and in the process of critical listening. One thing I noticed is that in between tracks the cover art disappears and then reappears at about the 20 second mark of the next song. This did not occur in previous firmwares. Is this the new normal or minor glitch?
I was a tiny bit worried when I read the email communique from PS Audio about Huron that they were going a little hyperbolic with the marketing speak. Turns out…
It sounds exactly like what they said, as is being confirmed by comment after comment here. More clarity, more body, more separation, more warmth, more detail. Just a delight to listen to.
Also, many thanks for the “L” indicator to show when the attenuator has been switched in.
The DirectStream DAC is one of my favourite things, ever.

Elk’s suggestion is probably correct. during the upgrade if we are coming from a release older than Huron and the maximum level is 0 we change it to 100, but in general if we see a maximum that’s different than 0 from an old release we don’t want to blast some one’s ears/speakers so we keep the old maximum. There’s a chance that some people’s systems thru random date paths (especially if they do beta’s) might look like some maximum other than 0 or 100 - we tried to test for all of the possible situations, but obviously missed one.
Similarly some of you may find that your 20dB attenuator (e.g. the Filter button on the remote) isn’t working - if so verify that the attenuator isn’t locked to “low” in the setup screen.

I didn’t even remember that feature existed but it did the trick. The thing is, I never adjusted the maximum volume and when I went back to Torreys I was able to increase the volume to 100 again. Upon reinstalling Huron the same problem occurred. It seems that the setting got changed by the Huron install. Very strange. I don’t think that was supposed to happen.
Thanks Elk!
Thanks for the explanation Ted. I’ve always set my DS (and PWD I and II in its prior incarnations) at 100 and used preamps. Since it happened to me both times I installed Huron (and not when I went back to Torreys) it may not be random so much as just unexplained (something peculiar about my unit). I had checked the 20 dB attenuator and it still worked (things got really quiet on top of the 73 max).
Yippy!
