Neat story and gesture – that almost never was!
From the article:
“Some people—especially Baby Boomers—tell me that this decline in the popularity of new music is simply the result of lousy new songs. Music used to be better, or so they say. The old songs had better melodies, more interesting harmonies, and demonstrated genuine musicianship, not just software loops, Auto-Tuned vocals, and regurgitated samples.”
Yep ! (says the old Boomer).
Although certainly not all of it is bad. Audio Reviewer Steven Stone is a Denver resident who hosted a Rocky Mtn Audio Society meeting several years ago where the theme was “pop music that doesn’t suck” or something along those lines. Good stuff, but it was sort of a curated playlist of exceptions.
I chalk it up to a lack of “authenticity” in over-produced pop.
Here is a fascinating YouTube video (several years old, but spot on) that does a deep dive into the some of the psychology and other influences at work. Well worth your time, IMHO . . .
At least he’s willing to vote with his wallet.
Groan …
I’ll add that I saw this movie several times in High School science and College Engineering classes. A classic case of a poor design. Fun fact, the Mackinac Bridge which crosses the Straits of Mackinac between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan has grating on the internal lanes to relieve air pressure differences between the upper and lower surfaces to prevent problems like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge above. The Mackinac Bridge is 64 years old and only sways a tiny bit in strong winds. I know I’ve walked across it many times on Labor Day, the only time when pedestrians are allowed.
Bet it sways by design as does the Golden Gate Bridge, and many others. Structural rigidity in dynamic systems is not always your friend.
Yes, an oft-played standard for us science nerds.
But still fascinating.
It does an exceptional job of making a point, we do not always know what we do not know, and there can be significant consequences.
A bit intimidating to drive across, in my experience…
Wonderful area of the country.
And everything has a resonant frequency. That also applies to a lot of the gear that we own.
