IRS BETA EMIT and L-EMIMs

Hi Guys,
I am new here and thinking to get IRS BETA which is in consideration.
But I believe EMIM and especially L-EMIMs not available and also I cannot find anyone who is carrying out repair / refurb service. According to Paul there is no alternative available also for L-EMIMs.

Not sure anyone here had any experience on this in past.

Just wanted to see how to manage this in case down the line if those drivers fall into issue.

Thanks in advance.

Beta owner here.

There are replacement membranes available for both LEMIM and EMIM. On the EMIM, there are options (AVA and Apogee).

I am partial to the Apogee ones. I saved the originals untouched and am using the apogee version. They are fantastic and an improvements on the original ones.

The AVA are also an improvement on the factory ones and follow the original design.

About LEMIM, Apogee has them ready!

Seriously, I hunt 2 weeks for an answer to have peace of mind if I will purchase the speaker and you are the only person provided me positive feedback.

In this where do purchase this units or it directly from you.

Cause if I’m going to buy them I rather have them upgraded with better.

In this occasion what would be the cost I’m looking at? Any estimate

Cheers,
Gen

I should add, the LEMIM seem to last forever. Mine are the stock units and I am in contact with Apogee to modify a set of spares just to see how they sound compared to the originals. (Apogee has the membranes ready, they are testing different “felt” on the frames to determine which will be used).

For the EMIM, they will sell you the diaphragms but i decided to send EMIMs for a full refurbishment. Not sure if the LEMIM diaphragms will be sold for DIY install but, in my case I will send the spare units for their magic.

If my experience with the EMIMs is an indication, they will be an improvement.

I received @adifferentpaul at home for a listening session, before I had a chance to replace the EMIMs, and i think he was positively impressed with the Beta (and he has some awesome speakers and components). Maybe he can pitch in here.

Caveat emptor, as components age they need attention. In my experience, all Solen caps need replacement (not expensive) and I had PS Audio’s guru service and adjust one of my Servo Control units (you only need one but I have spares for all components on my Beta).

IMHO, my Beta sound even better than when new. If I were to replace them, my first audition will be FR30s or FR20s.

This forum is more advanced than the Conrad Johnson Owners forum for general audio advice/experience, except for when it comes to Conrad Johnson gear where CJ gets the proper respect their gear deserves at CJO, lol.
Glad you reached out on this forum too. The IRS Beta is a classic.

Honestly, I’m so happy after seeing answer that it’s beta is upgradable on the emim and L-emim.
It was nightmare for me to find this answer as I was making decisions to buy irs beta. Every comment it a amazing speaker and I got blow away with recent audience I had with IRS beta. Which fall into. But when searching for part n unavailable service to support emim n L-emim I got stuck in my decision and was very hard to stay away from it finding another speaker.

Honestly, I have send email to Grez and after getting answer from Juen in this forum I’m going to bed happily tonight knowing I’m going to get the beta.
