Is it worth it to buy a DirectStream ONLY for Tidal and Spotify streaming? (Currently using a Node 2i)

Yes, the same (and only) dealer where I bought my KEF R7 speakers. This is their website: https://www.audiocitycr.com/content/. Tell her to ask for Mr. Gilberto. BR,

Thanks, just texted her the info. She gets to San Jose on a fairly regular basis. When I visited there we stayed at The American hotel in San Jose if I remember correctly. Pretty close to a little hipster neighborhood with nice restaurants and bars.

The price I was mentioning was for a new DS - got mine at Upscale Audio a year ago for under 4k - new. You should also consider contacting The Music Room in CO. I’m pretty sure they take many of PS Audio’s customer trade - ins. They have a used BHK pre for under 4k for example. I’d give them a call if you’re interested in a ps audio dac. Don’t know if there’s any reason they wouldn’t sell out of the country. Their “new” prices are also very good but you have to call to get them.

Saw this NuWave DAC yesterday think it just sold for $700 or so. I’ve heard these are very nice…

Thank you very much for your kind help. I have visited the Upscale Audio website a lot of times, always to sadly confirm they HATE customers that use freight forwarders to buy stuff. It’s the only way we can do it because if we all have to wait until the item actually arrived to our country it would take months and with a risk of being stolen. With my freight forwarder I constantly buy things from amazon and bhphoto, my orders arrive monday at my forwarder in Miami, tuesday at my country, wed through customs and thursday (worst case friday) I can have the item in my hands!
I guess they’ve had bad experiences or they just have a prejudice but I can’t understand why stores like Upscale Audio and such think there can’t be no legit customers outside the US that want/can buy high end stuff.

Thankfully Crutchfield now is open to forwarders and that’s how I could buy me beloved NAD M22 V2 amplifier.

Sorry for the rant… Thank you again!

Good Luck - I have a few assorted PA’s I own\use and the NAD M22 is one of my favorites. It’s really an unknown gem of a power amp. It scales really well. You can easily build a decent system around it and not be short changed in any way.

Thank you. Yes, I’m in love with my M22 V2! :+1:

Direcstream Junior might be an option for you. Close to the performance of the DS Senior at a more budget friendly price point. Another plus, all DSJ have a bridge built in. There are presently two used DSJ on Audiogon.

The NuWave is nice, but the GCD is better. I’ve owned both and can attest to this

I’m sure it is I was just giving him an example of a used $700 PS Audio option from the Music Room.

If you seriously want to buy a Directstream St. and Bridge call Steve at High Performance Stereo in Miami and see if he will work with your local to him freight forwarder. He will sell for well under retail. Otherwise the Teac is available from Crutchfield who you have dealt with before. I own both units and either will do the job for you albeit at different price points. I switch back and forth between the two units depending on mood.

Totally agree with @dawkinsj Steve sells at a big discount and his Miami location should make this a breeze. Hope he can work with you to get you what you need if you decide to go that route. I think he carries many other brands too.

Just seems like with a $7000 budget that you could get a DS ($4500?), or a Mytek Brooklyn ($2K?), and put together a better streamer than the Bridge II via an Aurender or Auralic. The Mytek and the Aurender will handle MQA for you.

A good friend has the Brooklyn/ Aurender combo and loves it.

Steve is having a Memorial Day sale also but it ends tomorrow so call him and see what he says.

Absolutely! Totally understand, and the NuWave is an excellent DAC and definitely an improvement over the Node 2 (I did compare the two in my system over several months).

Thank you very much to all for all the valuable information and suggestions you have provided me. This has been a incredibly helpful forum. :ok_hand::+1:

I agree with Brodric on this one and Paul M would probably also agree. Have you considered the DS Jr? Network card is built in. You can also probably find some use ones from clowns like me who upgraded to the DS after getting better speakers

I don’t have any high end streamers, but if you’d like to know why, and listen to my different setups and find yourself in Orlando, just let me know.
I feed an SGCD with an Allo DigiOne Player vía coax SPDIF, and as some wise ones said, spend more time chasing the quality recording. As a KEF owner myself, some recordings hide under the Q series and sound horrible with the R series, and viceversa. That tells me their different coloration preferences, which I appreciate. So getting the Uber DAC as some other wise ones pointed, it’s a coin toss, it may or not deliver delight. The only reason why I struck happiness was because I chose the Stellar M700 stack, finding the most neutral electronic set I’ve ever heard. With 10 different two channel setups at home I can combine over 20 different sound signatures and found where the synergy truly exists.

As an aside, a year ago I had the SGCD with the S300 power amp. I was in a position to upgrade either the DAC to the Direct Stream Junior, or the amp to M700’s. Multiple advisors at PS Audio guided me that the DSJ would be the more impactful upgrade between the two. I found a deal in which the cost worked out to be within $200 of each other. The DSJ with the S300 has been great.

Greetings from Australia, I am new to the PS Audio family and this is my first post. I am too looking at the directstream system for Tidal streaming and thinking of getting the Jnr as it has the Bridge 2 already. Reading the forum, I am little confuse with how Tidal behave with the Bridge 2. I would like to confirm with the DSJ using the Mconnect Control IOS app, will that able to play Tidal and MQA if avaiable? Do I need to keep the Mconnect control App running once I have playlist started? I am currently using a Marantz nd8006 with Heos to start/control my Tidal access once I’ve press play the Heos IOS control app can be off the network or even with my phone turn off and the music continues to play. Does the DSJ and the MConnect behave the same way?

I also have the Stellar dac/pre to control the volume, ie as the preamp in my system. Is the preamp function of the DSJ better than the Stellar or do I still need a preamp of some sort and using the DSJ just as a DAC?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome, soundfever!
