Iâm not recommending this particular one, but screens such as this link below.
Itâs analogue not HDMI in so I had to make a special lead to get analogue video from the 4th pin in the 3.5mm sound output jack, but for a bit more money HDMI screens of a few inches can be had.
The pi running the squeezbox client would actually work best with a touchscreen, but I was too cheap to stump up for the raspi one (and I heard it wasnât very responsive even with young fingers), but I believe they are cheaper now so it may be worth it.
Itâs a cheap and cheerful setup, I already had the synology NAS running the logitech media server software, though I should imagine it will run on most things now it is open source (i.e. the server could run on a windows on linux PC)

What made me smile (sorta) is that in the blurb for the screen, it points it has 2 inputs, and the second one over rides the first.
Specifically so that you can watch DVDs in your car and when you have to reverse, the reversing camera at the back cuts over the DVD.
Once your driving forward again you can go back to watching the DVD??!!!
This schedule would support demoing it at AXPONA! Any word on the drive mechanism? Paul was very cagey about it and James was too when I talked to him a few weeks back.
No effinâ idea. That is my latest info, and Iâve learned that it is best not to believe even that. I frankly donât understand peoplesâ willingness to accept supposition/speculation/hearsay as fact.
Paul has mentioned here that, despite appearances to the contrary - we donât always agree, and one of those things is that âif I were himâ I would not say anything about anything they are thinking about making until it is a done deal and close to release.
Donât really think teasing folks with stuff that changes dates and specs does anything for the Brand.
The shifting dates in internal planning is acceptable within a certain bandwidth. If I had to choose between date changes and hasty shortcuts itâs date changes. Hasty shortcuts are potential sources for unacceptable compromises in sound quality or even malfunctions. The end of R&D cycles is all about testing (and voicing in PS Audioâs case). Unsatisfactory results call for changes and the testing starts all over. Youâd be making real good money if you were able to verdict the amount and length of all those cycles.
I agree that trying to predict the time to market or price in a stage itâs actually a moving target is not an effective marketing strategy.
In my day job, I am a cost estimator for major engineering systems. The whole thing is effectively black magic based on statistics and history and similarity. Plus a healthy dollop of risk and uncertainty. The more complex the system, the softer the estimate.
One thing about estimators though is everyone hates us. The engineers are optimistic. Th users want it yesterday. The planners expect it to be late. The budgeteers know itâs gonna cost more.
Itâs a balancing act and kudos to small companies like PS Audio that make it all work.

Canât argue with your statements, but I was going on what Paul had said here in the forum ⊠so he started it! My interest in this is will the replacement player be SACD compatible. Paul initially said no, couldnât get a suitable drive. Then a few months back he said he found one, very expensive says he, but not sure if he can get it (whatever that meant). Now we are a few weeks away from the alpha unit and they still wonât say if they got the drive he wants. 
Just to put this in context, I have had the DMP since first introduced. Sounds great, but still is operationally flaky. Itâs not a deal killer, but if PS has something better Iâm interested!
Exactly my point about why Paul should just stop pre-hyping stuff, and responding to every bit of the current state of the development process. He doesnât make every callâŠhe has delegated aspects of production to others. As he should.
It is indeed a good question. I still have my beta DMP. Iâm relatively chill about some things, and fortunately the things the DMP didnât do didnât bug me that much due to my particular use case.

AFAIK, no one has determined if âThey still wonât sayâ hereabouts what the Drive Deal is. It surprises me that you, as a sensible Midwestern Michigander, would be spreading this sort of disinformation : )
They have a drive . I saw it it one of Paulâs videos. He pointed it out. Whether they have negotiated a supplier agreement or not would be the next question.
Iâm assuming you are being, at least partly, facetious. I should have defined my use of âfewâ, in my line of thinking a âfewâ is 3-12, so in this case 3-12 weeks. 12 weeks is early April, well past the end of February. This is quibbling, so leave it at that. Too me, the issue is Paulâs definition of âalphaâ, hereâs what he said in August about the AN-3: âan Alpha unit where the hardware components like cabinet, drivers, electronics, packaging, are all what we plan to produceâ. The end of February is seven weeks away, I sure hope they have made a decision on the drive by now. No need to draw this out any more, I was just asking if you knew what the decision was (you donât), nothing more.
Thanks for pointing that out, do you recall what the title of the (Ask Paul?) video it was? I stopped watching them since YouTube on my TV just scrambles the order (by posting date) and it gets frustrating looking for the most recent ones.

When I wrote âoptimisticallyâ, I meant - given that in November Paul said January, I would take any âcurrent scheduleâ asâŠcurrentâŠat the moment. In the same way that the schedule in November was current then. I donât disagree with you, and was being facetious. I was more giving you a hard time for the sense of what you wrote reading like demanding to know what their situation is, and parts are, as if they had promised you something like an Axpona demo, and you were doubting the possibility, when no such thing has been mentioned.
Again, this approach clearly leads to even loyal customers being irked.
I just got an email today from Universal Audio, maker of some of my studio gear. It was the announcement of a new and unknown piece of gear being introduced in a week at The NAMM show. No one will know what it even IS until then.
The folks posting on their boards were only aware of it at all in advance of this (since November) because someone noted that they had filed for a couple of patents. So there has just been a couple of months of âwhat do you think it will be?â posts. No irate potential customers miffed about changing designs, promises, dates, parts or whatever.
Personally, I prefer that approach.
