Is this the new big a** amp Paul talked about?

Looks like two put together.

Pretty sure it is….2 channel. Not sure if there is a monoblock that’s bigger. The time bar in your screen capture covers it but if you zoom in on the following capture from another video you’ll see ā€œPaul McGowan Signature Amplifierā€. Appears to be the same amp.

It is indeed big.

That looks like a monoblock to me. I see only one XLR and one RCA input. There are two sets of speaker binding posts but that is the new normal for PS Audio. I also see between the binding posts what looks like a plug for a separate power supply. I can’t see any transformers in the little bit of the interior you can see, so seems possible. Must be a whole lot of transistors in that beast for a monoblock to need that big a chassis. Absolutely will not find it’s way into my small room …

Good catch on the input. I didn’t even look there. Just saw the 2 speaker ouputs. Think I’d know better….my BHK 250 has dual binding posts, as you described.

Need to fill that big empty cavity!

At 800 watts (at 4 or 8 ohm, was not revealed) and 100 watts of continuous Class A, all of that space will be required for big supplies, a bunch of output devices, boards, and heat sinks for all that heat disapation.
You have experience with that kind of a beast in a single chassis. These might be a two man job even in mono chasses.:grimacing:

This box is obviously far too big for 99% of all audiophiles. Why not using modern switch power supplies and find a more practical size without relevant sq loss??

Probably aimed at 1% of all audiophiles anyway!

Yep, and I still love my M1200 cause they sound great and fit in my shelve (not to mention WAF).

Paul clearly states it is a mono block (but hinted elsewhere that there are to be others in the series). But now PS Audio fans. First an observation and then a challenge. For totally unknown reasons, I explored the cost/weight ratio of existing mono blocks (BHK 600; M1200; M700): $270/lb +/- just 3%. Now the challenge. How much will the beast weigh and what will it cost? This will be more the fun as I bet the final weight is now set within a pound or two but not the price. Or is it?

Happy cake day Palouse! And right you are who this would be aimed at! I’m assuming it’s a real Statement product.

There most certainly will be smaller, more audiophile wallet/back/room size friendly amps coming out before this one ever does. Also, Paul is not in favor of switched mode power supplies for his higher end offerings, especially amps.

Happy cake day!!!

That cake sure is good.

Remember, the Aspen series started with the FR30. Maybe a smart marketing strategy. You capture the audience with the yen and the money (sorry, couldn’t resist) for the top end who might otherwise have gone for the lower model and then would not want to move up. And, smart move to market first a pair of 100 watt space heaters in January.

I think with latest class D developments and high end products, Paul would be wise to call Darren again some time soon. Both for reasons of SQ and power consumption.
Nonetheless, I’m convinced this new PMG series of amps will be killers. Let’s see what the near future brings and what flags we can spot on the horizon.

It uses a modern SMPS inside so the extra room isn’t for the big power transformers, it’s for all the heat sinking required for the more than 50 watts of pure class A before it switches over to Class A/B and the 800 total watts available from the beast.

It’s big, no bout a’ doubt it!

Hi Paul roughly what are the dimensions and weight of these amps ?
