5 would definitely be overkill. You won’t have any problem with 4.
I use 4 VooDoo Isopods under the P20. Seems ok.
Iso’s are rated to do relatively high weights. It’s key to have a flat platform.
I find the VooDoo Isopods to be very effective. No elastomer, just balls. I’ve lost my balls a couple times, however.
That sounds like it could be painful.
Thanks Jamesh!
I will go with 4 Bordeaux footers and remove the stock ones.
Without the balls, they’re just not effective. And VooDoo won’t sell you new ones. So best not to lose your balls.
Did not know that. Better not let my balls drop ever.
I had Rollerballs before with a single ball and hated the movement, especially with a transport. Best to grow a pair and have a spare.
I was just getting excited about all this, decided on 4 Bordeaux under my P20 then went to measure the gap above my P20. Not a chance, I’ve currently only got just over 1.5”. I guess I’m scuppered and nothing can be done (well yes, I could rebuild my rack i guess, but apart from that). :sulk
You can always use a bit of rubber or urethane sheet under the stock feet for some isolation. It would certainly be better than nothing at all.
No, I think the solution for me is to replace my 12.75” Quadraspire legs and screw together spare 7” + 8.5” = 15.5” which would then gain me 2.75”, which I believe you are allowed to do with Quadraspire
Just a thought: Are you still “too tall” if you were to place the Bordeauxs under the chassis near, rather than under, the original footers?
Regards.
Good point, will check. Thanks
This would give an extra 0.5”, giving a total gap of 2” gap. Minus iso height of 1.4” leaves a final gap of 0.6”. My P20 does not really get that hot, with clear sides that might be ok.
Also keep in mind that the Bordeauxs will “settle” a bit if they are the right product for the weight of the P20. If they don’t compress some (but not too much), then they are not the right choice for the kit.
Removed the regular feet, installed four Bordeaux(s).
I am too lazy to AB, but I like what I hear: a meaningful improvement in soundstage depth, tighter imaging, more transparency, and better dynamics.
BTW, P20 was already positioned on a quality rack that goes a long way to control vibration: Finite Elemente Pagode Master Reference.
Looks like P20 benefits substantially from vibration control.
Removing existing feet first, is that just for cosmetics? I plan just to lift mine up a nat’s and slide them in one at a time. Is this a bad idea, otherwise I will have to dismantle my rack.
From Isoacoustics website: “The upper flange of the OREA’s are designed to provide a suction cup like effect and adhere to the underside of the component, while the lower flange adheres to the supporting surface.” So you have to put a Bordeaux under a flat part of the underside of your P20.
I’m sure I will find unthought of practicalities, but the picture uploaded above implies there is room around the existing feet without needing to remove them
Based on my experience with the Gaia I’s and AV Roomservice EVP’s, I suspect some of the discussion has underestimated what’s needed under components . Under 68 lb speakers, the Gaia I was seriously inferior to four 2” square HD EVP’s, rated up to 19 lbs each (the 4” ones would likely be better but are way more expensive). The head of Isoacoustics had emailed me that the Gaia I would do fine up to 72 lbs, per their website, but later said he had misspoke and 10% leeway is needed at the top of the range, i.e., Gaia II was needed. I suspect the same thinking should apply to their and probably any pods’ stated ranges vs. component weight. It’s possible to go too far above the component’s weight, so the desired compression and thus isolation doesn’t occur, but short of that I’ve found with speakers and components that having a fair amount more than enough works better than working the edge of the range.
This site gives you a good idea on sorbothane and what happens Sorbothane Isolators. Isoaccoustics have sorbothane inside.
I use the Thor lab isolation under my P20 and mono blocks pre amp and DSD. Gaia Titans for speakers.
