I shut everything down for 18 hours as instructed. I believe they said 4-24 hours.
It is playing the first record I chose on Audirvana “Amada by Peo Aldofonsi”.
1- it played
2- Maybe it is in my head, but it sounds much better than before, more open and natural. Like it blew its nose.
3-We will see how it goes. I want to try another recording but I am really enjoying this.
I would suggest for anyone, if they have had their DS Sr. on 24/7 for a long time, to pull everything out and unplug it for a day. You might be surprised.
Interestingly, I took the bridge out a 6-8 weeks ago because things weren’t feeling magical to me. Maybe this was the issue.
I do not plan on reinstalling the bridge.
Im going to try a dsd from ssd… “Likewise by Enzo Petropouli”.
If you are going to keep the MKI, I suggest you keep an eye out for one of @jkrichards power board kits. With people moving on to the MKII there’s bound to be a few coming up for sale.
If one looks closely at how the DS DACs operate they’re, purpose built, computers. If you take a nod from a Windows PC I would agree with a weekly reboot/flush. I’m still scratching my head regarding the capacitors needing hours to empty their charge completely. I’ve seen this requirement in days of old with electrolytic cans. I’ve been wrong before, will be wrong again. I’m curious which type of caps have that requirement. @Paul or anybody with more knowledge than I please enlighten us/me.
I think there are two things here: warmup time and nose-blowing. Leaving it on all the time means you don’t have to be concerned about warmup time. On the other hand, as you’ve noted, the Spring Cleaning disconnect-everything procedure is always a good idea from time to time - maybe more so in the static-y winter months.
