Donald, do you still recommend the LHY SW-10 as well?
I have compared both 10 and 6, and in my system SW-10 indeed sounds superior. You still have the SW-8 right? You can still use that as a FO module and just get either 6 or 10. This way you will have a solid FO setup!
exactly what I will be doing with Melco. Instead of the cheapo media converter with LPS, I kill two birds one stone. Get the switch and media converter in one unit.
I don’t want answer this question for Donald but I’ve asked the same question to Todd from Tek Audio the LHY/Jays Audio dealer in the US and his was comparison was using the Jay’s CD transports. He said both are great but the SW6 is the Jays CDT 2 where as the SW10 is the Jays CDT3. Better power supplies and better components make a better switch. That’s how it was described to me.
LHY makes a clock unit. My friend Sean just got one. Six clock ports that offer options. He likes what he hears. Built like all LHY gear. Lists for $750. Much less on Aliexpress.
Definitely! I’ll be taking advantage of your extensive experience with the fiber goodies. All in stages for me. Thank You. Mr. D
I currently have the SW8 and am considering adding ghe SW10. That is now on hold for a PZ of some sort. Likely a PC upgrade as well.
Is the clock that’s in the Ock-2 the same as the one inside the SW10? I will have to research.
Well, since you have SW-8, adding a SW-10 will for sure improve streaming SQ (with FO link), but I am afraid PZ will give you a bigger SQ jump! Of course, we are talking about 10x cost here.
As changes go, these are subtle. There is no time limit so no rush needed. They aren’t expensive though which is nice.
Pretty subtle though.
Looks like the clocks in the SW10 and the Ock-2 are different. The ock-2 is in the same chassis as the SW8 so its slightly larger than the SW6.
So I have a noob question. I’m not a noob to audio but last time I was buying gear cd’s were the latest and greatest and laser disks were around. I recently have been able to chase my passion again and things have changed a bit. I now stream from my pc so I am doing some reading and came across this thread.
Noob question … Would a cheap network switch such as a TP link desktop switch TL-SG108 be of any benefit? I ask because I already own one that is not in use.
Welcome!
Thank you
I started with TP link, and later changed to a LHY SW-8. What kind of improvement did I hear? It was like I had been listening with wine corks in my ears before.
Unfortunately, it would take a monumental effect to eliminate noises throughout the streaming chains, plus better gears to achieve SQ equally to CDs. So, you better be ready for the deepest rabbit hole awaits for you😆
Edit: forgot to answer your real question, TP link helped a tiny as I remembered.
Can you share a some details about your signal path and the current kit in the network?
Will help the Peanut Gallery in responding to you…
Thank you! I figured if it helped at all it would be a very small amount and why not add it and see if I can hear a difference since I already have it in hand. I am interested in the high grade switches though. I’ve never heard of them before today, lol
I can! I have a TP-Link AX6000 router hard wired to my pc with cat 8. From the pc to a Matrix X-SPDIF3 then into a Gain Cell DAC. I stream both QoBuz and Amazon and also through JRiver from my HD.
Save up funds for a PSA AirLens maybe the easiest way to get much better sound in future. This is purely my speculation from members’ inputs here since I do not have one.
I thought I would have the same isolation with the matrix?
