LHY SW-6: Snake Oil or A Substantial Upgrade?

Nice talking to you. If you cannot find a used one for sale (SR Master), the Cable Co. offers discount too.

Thanks and you too! - I will check with them. Without Music. - life would b-flat.

Choose an SR pinke or AM MR2 fuse for your Streamer.
Greetings Andrew

Hi there and thank you! , I bought a Master for Lumin U2 and a pink for LPS to Roon Titan toay…

Master fuse seems to work in streamers better than other devices. I tried all my devices, and I can confirm that too.

I am proud to have never fallen prey to this Master nonsense.

Haha! That is so funny - it wouldn’t be so funny if it wasn’t so true! OMG…

Donald, I finally got around to trying a pair of these modules and the recommended Optospan yellow SM cable between my SW-6 and Rose RS130. I’ll give them more time, but I did not find in my system for them to be better than the Finisar 1318 setup I’m currently using. They’re not worse (as were pretty much all the others I tried next to the 1318s, in one way or another), but on first listen theres no indication in my system that it’s better than the Finisar. But like I said, I’ll give them more time. They’re stone cold out of the box. Not necessarily a fair comparison to something I’ve been using for a while.

I’m thinking they won’t sound different than the pair of TP Link modules I paid $29 for on amazon. And for that reason….

To each his (or her) own. I have at least a half dozen pair of modules across manufacturers and models, and they all sound different. :man_shrugging: But, there’s certainly no guarantee that you get better sound with more expensive modules.

There has always been a mystery about small upgrades in this hobby. Some hear significant improvement, some hear a little, and some do not hear any. In my case, I heard better improvement on Optoscan FO setup on the 2nd day of installation (same on many tweaks and cables). Let’s hope you will hear more improvement tomorrow, but it will not surprise me if you do not hear any improvement either. :woman_shrugging:

These kinds of things are small pieces of the overall puzzle. This was an initial report only. It deserves more time. :slightly_smiling_face:

I just ordered an LHY SW6. I just couldn’t find a source for the Optospan modules and the fiber optic cable.
I don’t think I’m going too far wrong with ADOT modules singlemode and the right fiber optic cable for Melco.
I also considered choosing a second Melco S100 or LHY SW 10 switch.
I didn’t want to overdo it and the difference I hope is hosmall.
I think the LHY SW 6 with its isolated port should be sufficient as a transmitter to the Melco switch.
Greetings Andreas

One advantage of going with SW-10 is that you can link the clocks of the two, and there is a slight improvement in ease and smoothness of streaming SQ (not something one can tell in blind test ). But it is more likely you will like the sound better because SW-10 sounds better.

I suspect without even hearing it that the SW 10 sounds better than the SW6. The main advantage of the SW 10 is that its OCXO clock is better stabilized and has a separate transformer for the clock. But it is also twice as expensive.
I was close to ordering the SW 10.
You said that sound changes on the 1 switch are not so easy to hear.
My main idea was to use the LHY SW 6 to create a fiber optic connection for galvanic isolation to the Melco S100 switch.
Before my streamer comes the Melco S100, which is supposed to get a better power supply this week.
I thought you said that the sound differences on the switch in front of the streamer are greater than on the switch before that.
No Donald, an SW6 is enough at this point.:hear_no_evil:  I should have waited until you tried two SW 10 switches to see if it made a difference.
The SW 6 should produce a better sound than the LHY FMC, though.
At least I hope so.

Okay, the sound improvement with a BNC (50ohm by LHY) cable connecting clocks of SW6 and 10 was better than without, but it’s a slight improvement.

I have not tried with SW-6 in chain by itself, and I had SW-10 before I got the SW-6. When I still had Lumin U2, I used to connect it with FO to SW-10. After I got SW-6, I moved FO between the two switches, and put Shunyata Omega ethernet between SW-10 and Lumin U2. This has produced the best SQ in my system.

The SW-10 in front of SW-6 sounded quite a bit better than the other way around in my system. In other words, SW-10 is closer to the streamer.

After MU2 arrived, I kept the same arrangement. I do not have any desire to try different arrangements because the SQ is just so good that I don’t bother.

Did I answer your question, or did you have a question? I do not think two SW-10s make much sense. However, Muon Tempus switch has FO input, and I wonder if I put it in front of SW-10, or 6, will that do anything?

Can’t remember, have you already ordered the Muon Pro?

Not until I have PZ in system first, I want to enjoy the full impact from it alone first. Muon Pro can wait, and I’m in no hurry to add it to the streaming chain since I don’t know why I need it? I’m happy now🕺🏻

You are using your MU2 without a Muon Pro? It makes a huge difference used in conjunction with your LHY switch imo.
