LHY SW-6: Snake Oil or A Substantial Upgrade?

Donald, the NA Muon pro would also be my recommendation. Either you put it between SW 10 and Grimm Mu2 or between router and SW 6.
NA ships express and the Muon Pro doesn’t take long to work its magic.

I read that one switch is good, two are better and more are not necessary.

Greetings Andreas

I was told that Gryphon can ship only to houses where a Muon Pro is installed…

I heard Muon Pro System is better than Omega ethernet cable, but will it be better than Omega+SmoothLAN (a noticeable improvement) in my system? Will Muon Pro work with Omega’s filter and sound better (2 passive filters in chain)? Will Muon come out a Pro2 or something else that improves over Pro? Will something else come out next year that becomes the new king in filters?

I know no one can answer that, but I can wait a bit longer to find the next best thing. I am not like @straightwire who suddenly became a rabbit hole jumper lately😆

I felt I’m getting close to the top of Mt. (for me) so I’ll enjoy the view a little longer🕺🏻

Donald I was assured that no new Muon pro is planned in the near future. I had these concerns too. I would recommend that you order the Muon pro as a system with a muon cable. Then you first try muon pro with Omega between SW 10 and Grimm MU2. Then swap Omega for the Muon cable. You already have an impression. You’re on the safe side if your Omega doesn’t get along with the muon pro. Instead of the xangsane cable from the router to the SW 6, you can try Omega or the muon. (Vmaxx compared xangsane with his master experience) I think you won’t be able to get much more out of the streaming connection and you’ll be at the end of the journey. My thought. Greetings Andreas

The advantage I see would be that the muon allows 1Gbit to go through to Grimm MU2 instead of the 100Mbit of the SmoothLAN. On my Melco s100 switch, the 100mbit outputs for audio are recommended because they should cause less noise. With Muon pro, noise is history. At the 1Gbit output of the Melco it sounds just as quiet with Muon pro but with, to my ears, better timing, dynamics and more better sub-bass thrust.

Unfortunately vmax get that silver cable from me🙁 The new silver ethernet cable works much better in my case, it eliminates the flat soundstage issue. One experiment I did was putting Omega in front of two switches, and the difference was so small that I was not sure there was any. We are talking about a $3k cable vs. a $200 cable here😲 my guess is duo-switches-FO worked wonderfully in my case.

Your other recommendation was exactly what I planned to do not that long ago, But now I have PZ and a two week trip coming so I’m in no hurry. The more I thought about it, the more I believed I may just get different sound than improvement. So I can wait.

Donald, don’t rush and enjoy the journey first. It’s not so much a different sound with the Muon Pro. It’s more the improvement of layering, detail,
timing and presentation.
But save that for later. What else do you have to optimize after PZ comes? Don’t then find that you can’t do anything more. It’s not so much the destination as the journey there that’s fun. Muon pro for Christmas.

Amps, and more cables as always😆

FWIW, my Muon Pro filter is stuck in customs. My original one only took a couple weeks. There are no assurances that if ordered, you will get it soon. They ship directly from England.

Oversea delay seems to happen more frequently lately, and maybe it has something to do with the approaching holiday season. Let’s hope PZ will not have a prolonged delay. It better gets here soon since we will be on vacation in a little over two weeks.

So sad, and with the Long Shoreman’s strike it may be further delayed?

I tip my hat off to you, Donald. After 48 continuous hours of time on the Optospans, I feel in my system I prefer them (and the F.O. cable) over my Finisar 1318 setup. The Finisar are not bad by any means - after all they came out on top after a summer of trying a slew of others. But the Optospan solution to me sounds just a bit more dynamic, a bit more “clean”, and simply just a bit more enjoyable. A bit less cluttered by comparison. My thanks.

I tried many SFP’s also - I found these Optospan and FO to be the best sounding as well…same. Thanks Donald.

Thanks guys! It is always nice to hear confirmation of my recommendation that helped others too. Enjoy!

I think the Muon filter, and the PZ, are point to point air shipments, manufacturer to dealer, and as such will not be hitting the shores, affected by the strike.
Delays due to customs are a different matter.
I have a Muon filter sitting somewhere awaiting additional paperwork from the dealer to release it.

Unfortunately, the US Optospan distributor is currently backordered. My order is in and I am waiting patiently now.

You were happy before each change.

Oh! You are so right about that. :wine_glass:

The MUON Pro should be mandatory for any audiophile who has a network connected device. But you are absolutely correct, Powerzone first.
