LHY SW-6: Snake Oil or A Substantial Upgrade?

The different snake oils I tried lately made me want to try more snake oil. Heck! Even snake oil makes a difference in my system.

Real oil is priced very reasonably

Have you tried the forehead mounted post-it notes yet?
It could work you know!

That will be my last resort. But I’m going to order another Puritan GM City plus five more those green cables tomorrow. I don’t feel I’m on solid ground yet😆

The LHY SW-6 only just cleared the customs today, so I don’t think I’ll get it before Christmas.

My relatives will feel relieved at the Christmas party.

You obviously haven’t ever seen or used the Tempus switch. Of course the SFP inputs work perfectly (having used them with a Sonore Optical Module Deluxe V2). And also your other assumptions about the value of filtering or a power supply doen’t work out in reality.
I own the Tempus on my own, so can report first hand experience.
Wonder though why you don’t talk back with Network Acoustics if you are having questions etc. They are very responsive and open to people interested.
Also regarding your setup, I very much would advice to avoid the DeLock as it was by far the worst Ethernet filter I have ever used. If you would like to have a budget friendly alternative then go for the iFi LAN silencer which performs so much better then the DeLock.

Regarding switches there is a bunch of vendors out there, some of which definitely selling existing components in a new case. Though there are some like Network Acoustics who are one of the pioneers of Ethernet filtering and are doing an excellent job. Sure also others like UpTone Audio which had a debut with their EtherRegen provided a valuable ground for switches with audiophile requirements. In the meantime things have evolved even further and also the LHY is price/performance wise a very good alternative.

@aangen You will definitely very much enjoy the Tempus - not just color wise  (I got mine in black too)

@stevensegal for those less willing to wait Dave Brook of MCRU resells Nick Gorham LPS’s in the UK with various options including Oyaide.

I used a Paul Hynes supply for my Squeezebox which was excellent and probably the best in the business but had a waiting list in excess of 6 months. Sadly his business folded.

Wunderbar! :grinning:

I am absolutely no technican and have never opened any electronic device I owned

But you might see for yourself when some of your friends or Network Acoustics is lending you some of their MUON Pro filters what it is like in your specific setup.

Being into HiFi for more than 25 years I have experienced many things. And what was valuable all the time was to be open minded and judge for yourself.

USPS tracking says my LHY SW6 will be here today! Yesterday it was still in Los Angeles and kudos to postal services for a speedy delivery on the busiest Friday of the year!

LHY SW6 was installed in front of SW10. My new streamer setup is:

Orbi Stellite > Xangsane silver ethernet cable > isolated input of SW6 switch > Optospan fiber optic SM link > SW10 switch > Shunyata Omega ethernet cable > Lumin U2 streamer > Shunyata Omega USB cable from U2’s isolated output > DS MK2. I also connected both clock inputs of the switches by a LHY BNC cable. I have another 5N silver cable to try later.

After 30 minutes of playing, the sound is quite nice. The music flows smoothly with ease. It will take one day for the system to re-settle, and SW6 will need another week of break in. But so far, I like it.

Thanks for the update Donald, my un-ha moment is when I took one switch out of the chain after couple hundred hrs after the new SW is in the system. Right now it’s probably too soon to tell, but you’ll probably hear something possitive after 24-48hrs.

Would love to hear what you find when your system is settled, and you remove the BNC clock cable completely.

Today when I disconnected the BNC cable between the clocks of LHY SW6 and SW10, the soundstage collapsed and the treble turned harsher on Christmas songs from Johnny Mathis.

This is the part I hate. I purposely installed the LHY 50ohm cable back in reverse direction, and I liked better. I need a drink, but it’s only 10am in the morning🙁

Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

After the drink, sound without bnc will sound better

This clock cable business puzzles me. SW-6 is designed to use 50ohm cable, and from what I read 50-ohm cable is a better cable than 75-ohm cable for transmitting data.

So I got a LHY 50-ohm BNC that is designed to be used with SW-6 (and SW-10), and I have another Monosaudio sterling silver BNC that is 75 ohm. At first, I did not even know if it would work. But I just tried it and you know what? Not only does it work but it sounds better than LHY. This silver cable made everything sound more vivid and lifelike without a hint of harshness. Mind you the BNC cable only connects between the switches, and I don’t even have a clock output on Lumin U2.

I really need a drink now. :open_mouth:
