Hi Donald - Hope you are doing well - curious if you got your Muon Pro and Cable? Thanks…Andy
Last I checked the Muon Pro arrived, but not the cable. I don’t know why they didn’t ship them together. I have not heard any updates so far.
They had a 15% sale so maybe there’s a backup, I’ll check with the dealer tomorrow again.
Cool - interested to hear your assessment.
I just received the LHY Audio linear power supply for my Eversolo DMP-A8. The unit is very well built using premium parts like a 10,000 uF Mundorf 125 deg. filter capacitor and silver plated replacement wiring. Fit is perfect. Tools, while cheap, are included along with gloves.
There is a radio station I like to listen to on Tuesday nights located in Worton, MD, run by a high school of all places. Charlie Sintcom is a DJ there who has a program called ‘Psyche Out’ who plays obscure and hard to find psychedelic music from the 60s and 70s (he is in his 70s). Reception of this station in my home is a little weak and if I had my A8 on it would add extra noise making the station un-listenable. After replacing the power supply I can now leave it on with no effect. I will see if I notice any improvement with streaming to my DAC.
I have SW6 and a LHY FMC. I had the FMC upstairs by my router with a 60’ run of fiber to the back my rack and the SW6. I was having some connectivity issues. @aangen suggested moving the FMC closer to the SW6 so I did and used a shorter 10m fiber cable made by Sonore. Not only did it solve my connection problems but I’m noticing a significant improvement in sound quality. Now I’m wondering if the upgraded fiber transceivers would make a noticeable improvement?
That seems odd - what type of fiber was it? OS2 paired with the correct transceivers should have no issue with 1km+ runs.
No, they would not. But for $375 why not? I like mine. Can’t hear a difference but who cares?
I just got the 22AWG Link-Up CAT8. It’s thick and the connectors are massive! You’d think it was some audiophile nonsense. Have not tried yet because I’m letting the Gryphon PowerZone settle in…
$250 bargain.
And they’re cheap (cost wise) compared to some others. May have to try one between the wall and my LHY FMC.
Tonight I put the formally used SFPs and Fiber cable into storage. I could just as easily put them back in play and send you the expensive stuff. But I think I will just leave well enough alone.
For the record, I have tried a lot of very expensive and some not very expensive SFP Fiber Optic cable stuff. If it makes a difference, I cannot detect it. I feel blessed that I can’t. For those of you who can, I am not envious. But I am done trying things in the SFP / Fiber camp.
Something odd here, 60’ is nothing for fiber. If this rabbit hole is still enticing, try some 1380mm single mode fiber and modules.
To this I say bah.
I just ordered an expensive 15’ Optospan FO, and the shipping alone is $21 on a $39 cable! It will replace my 3’ Optospan FO. The idea is to move Orbi satellite from the rack to 12’ further.
There’s no way I’ll hear any difference, and MU2 people said it is not affected by EMI, but my two LHY switches might. If I hear any difference then I’m in trouble.
Up to the individule, you are just being loud
I bought and tried the 3m 22AWG version of this cable, to replace my ancient but otherwise good sounding 3m CAT6 Monoprice cable. I’m afraid to say I was disappointed. The LINKUP did not make my system sound even as good as the Monoprice CAT6. AAMOF it sounded much worse to me. I normally ask my wife to listen to see what she thinks (it’s a sort of single blind test) but in this case it wasn’t worth it. There was nothing ambiguous about it - mechanical, reduction in spaciousness… Of course different things work differently in different systems, so as always YMMV.
Did you un-ground the shield at one end?
That would involve modifying the cable assembly, wouldn’t it?
It’s super easy to do with that particular cable, either in a temporary or permanent way. You could remove the copper tape in the plug, or just cover it with kapton/electrical tape to test.
I’m not really sure that for me it’s worth it. If it isn’t any better then I will have altered the cable and likely lose the ability to return it. I’ll listen to it a bit more, but I’d just as soon return it and try an alternative.
