LHY SW-6: Snake Oil or A Substantial Upgrade?

This one from England. It can be purchased on Amazon or directly from the manufacturer. It is a solid core cable that delivers very good results at an amazingly affordable price. You can also order it in rolls to lay longer distances. For ready-made cables, you will also receive a test report from the test. The cable sounds quite balanced and I would prefer the link-up over an Audioquest. Not just because of the low price. In terms of price it is one of the most interesting.

I had an Audience powerChord SE-i on the SW6 for no reason other than it was what I had lying around ready to plug in, and also it’s a lot easier to handle than most of my other cords. The other day I switched it to Furutech DPS-4.1. It was different, probably better sense of resolution, but in this application it was a bit too analytical as Furutech sometimes leans. Swapped back to Audience and the more relaxed sound was back. So yes, power cord on a switch makes a difference just like on most everything else. Blehhhhh….

I am starting to suspect the Furutech does better with LPS than SMPS. It’s exceptional on most gear - preamps, big Class A amps, etc. - and made a very big difference on the HDPlex LPS I had powering my Roon Core NUC at one point. But with the SW6, an ICEPower Class D amp, and the Mola Mola gear, it leaves me a little cold. For those, my lighter cables like Kubala Sosna or Audience often fare better.

Similarly, in my second system I realized I was running an old crap Cat5e cable from the wall to my Mola Mola Makua DAC, and a generic Cat6 from the wall to the NUC. (In my defense, this system isn’t fully set up yet so it was always a bit patchwork - my gear is also sitting stacked on the floor on top of a spare kitchen cabinet shelf.) With 50 feet of generic Cat6 in the walls running to a Ubiquiti PoE switch, I figured it couldn’t matter that much, but I swapped in the Blue Jeans Cat6A in, first for the DAC, then for the NUC. Yes, it made a considerable difference - bass became firmer and punchier, and the entire image snapped into better focus. I guess I’ll order some LinkUp now…

Is the 22AWG version necessary, or is 26AWG ok too? The 22AWG doesn’t come in anything shorter than 5m.

(Just remembered the SW6 has an LPS, so throw that pet theory out the window…)

I only tried the AWG 22 version. Which one bought Job_Jalink now? He seems happy with what he hears.

I’m also using the 22awg version, haven’t tried the other.

That may have been me. I placed my order for the Muon Pro on October 31st, and just received shipping confirmation today (November 12).

I bought the AWG26 one in the 3m version. 3m just because I didn’t want to fall short for whatever reason and the price difference wasn’t a show stopper.
The AWG26 sounds good, but if course I have no comparison to the AWG22 one… Any thoughts on which might work better?

Yesterday evening I also wondered why I didn’t buy additional cables to connect my nas and the fibre home entry to my router… First next steps for improvement.

BTW, if you look at the way they build their cable: really nice!

Edit:
After re-reading, I saw that flowcharts was the one mentioning the Link-up alternative as budget contender, to which Andreas commented with praise.
Also, I saw a AWG22 2m version. Sure pricier than the AWG26 ones. So taww, keep looking for the one you really need, if you can’t hide a bit of rolled up cable.

I can see that I need to get some of the generic crap Cat 6 out of the vicinity of my gear!!

I was told my Muon Pro has arrived, and the dealer is waiting for the streaming cable to ship to me together. So, it sounds like I will get them before our Thanksgiving party🕺🏻

Hmm. I’m not liking what I’m seeing in the reviews regarding the fragility of the connectors.

The link-up plugs are very high quality and similar to the Telegärtner ones. Fragile plugs would be new to me. Furutech plugs are fragile. If it happens, you can get repair kits from Amazon that will probably fit the Furutech connector. Greetings Andreas

You are in for a treat! This journey is one of many steps, some little, some large. This falls in the latter category!! 24 hours in and I’m so happy. Just ignore what you hear when you first plug it in. It opens up.

Hello - I had to chime in and post that I just replaced my RG6 cable running 50’ from where it enters my home from Internet provider to my Modem - replaced with DH Labs D-750 coax with F connectors - wow! So Balanced and musical - smooth but so dynamic and detailed. Its not even 24 hrs - so not burned in yet - Fantastic upgrade!

Good Idea, I had it replaced years ago too. I just do not remember which brand I used.
