M1200. Price$ And vs bhk 250

How do you like the sound of the Legacy Focus SE?
They look like they would sound excellent.

Used BHK 250 FTW

I am pretty sure the the BHK pre amp is a factor as well. That said I am running bargain brand xlr interconnects from pre amp to amps and basic 12 awg silver tinned copper to speakers. So i have lots of room for improvement and it still sounds awesome. I did upgrade my power cords and it made a substantial difference. Cheers let us know how it goes.

Are incredibly very tight good dynamics and the bass is so powerful , best investment i do

Whadya mean Elk…you wanna start sumthin’??

I auditioned the Legacy Audio Focus SE’s before I chose the Aeris model, I would highly recommend the Focus SE or XD for the money the sound is truly amazing for the price. There is no question that the Aeris is a different sounding speaker and the best sounding speaker I have ever owned. By the way I am running a pair of PS Audio M700 amplifiers with great results and would love to try the new m1200 down the road. I upgraded from a pair of Parasound JC 1s mono blocks and couldn’t be happier!!!

What preamp are you using to feed the M700’s?
And what are the sonic differences did you find between the Focus SE and Aeris?

I am currently using a Marantz 8805 preamplifier, as my system is used for movies with a Dolby Atmos 7.4.2 setup, and a 2 channel setup with dual Rythmik F18 subwoofers. This setup is in a dedicated media room.

The 1200’s with tube buffer vs. the BHK would be more interesting and relevant, the BHK has that mushroom induced magical unicorn 3rd order harmonic distortion ;D – bypass the BHK tubes (I ain’t gonna do it +. probably designed as a system ie tubes+bhk’s mosfet stage) vs the M700 and you’ll have my attention.

Well this thread just got WAY MORE topical because with the just announced sale on the bhk 250 and the just announced price on the m1200, the cost for the units is virtually the same!

So I guess the real question now is, is bhk250 worth the extra $1 over m1200?? PSA employees and testers who have heard both and can compare and contrast please jump in and answer that question for us and why. :grinning:

Question on m1200: is the class D output stage technology different in m1200 from that in m700 other than in its power output capacity?

I know the input stage is much different between the two, but here asking only about the class D output side. Hopefully that question makes sense. Thx

Stated another way, based only on the class D output circuitry and disregarding the upgraded output wattage per channel, would we expect improved SQ based on any purely class D differences of m1200 as compared to m700?

Stated yet another way, is the big price jump from m700 to m1200 based solely on increased wpc and improved input stage (and/or other factors not related to specific class D tech), or is there additionally a significant improvement owing to improved class D tech in m1200?

The new IcePower module the 1200s are based on is their SOTA board. Which Darren also made a change to. So yes.

Wonder why no GaN tech in the M1200? Seems to be the next step in the class d evolution/revolution …

Because they chose this other, brand-new iteration of a tried and true thing?

Well,it could be a price constraint thing too… but from what I have gathered…GaN is going to be extremely hard to beat sound quality wise…versus any other type of class d circuitry for the moment. I would love to hear from PSA why they did not at least look into GaN as a viable technological improvement over old school class d tech…

I’m not sure I get why they need to gamble on the Latest Thing, vs. maintaining continuity of supply and sound in the Stellar line.

I did play my PSI (no typo) studio monitors for Darren, which have class G amps. Not sure if they’re GaN or not. He was a tad critical of the driver choice😝

Pretty sure they are not GaN Mark.

mark-d are there any class D GaN amps currently available at less than $20K?
