I have BHK300’s, so no direct experience with the BHK250, but if the specs are accurate & the amp is up to those specs, and/or, there’s no issue with it’s protection circuit, it shouldn’t be a problem driving the LRS at safe (to your hearing) listening levels. A few variables, which is why I’d send it to Boulder to be checked out.

Herb Reichert used PrimaLuna’s 35Wpc ProLogue Premium tube amp & Pass Labs XA25 Class A, solid state power-amplifier; 25wpc into 8 & 4 ohms (does not double power into 4 ohms, but does provide 50 Watt peak for 2, 4 or 8 ohm load) & reported no such difficulties when producing loudness levels of 88dB average/96dB peak, C-weighted. No doubt his smallish 1,170 cu/ft listening space is a factor, but the power reserves of the BHK250 far exceed either of those amps, in the case of the XA25, 10 times more power at both 8 & 4 ohms (enough to double the perceived volume level).

Indeed, something is wrong with either the BHK 250 or the Maggies. This shouldn’t be happening.

My BHK250 was picked up by Fedex yesterday and its on the way to PSAudio to be checked. The Maggies are singing with the Spectral M1200’s!!!.

January 20th FedEx’ed one of my BHK300’s to Boulder to be checked out (fortunately it was only a bad tube). It was back in my system February 3rd. Coronavirus lock down will likely slow things a bit but their customer service is first class.

The 1200’s seem like they would be ideal with Maggies. Lotsa power and a tube input stage…

The 1200’s do magic with the Magenpan LRS. Definitely does not sond like a $640 paid of speakers. They are amazing!!!

Those small Maggie’s are extreme value for money…I still miss my sold ones (since decades) somehow!

Quick follow up. Did you get your BHK 250 back from PS Audio and was it then able to drive the LRS’s? I have a 250 and have used it to drive 1.7i’s and 3.7i’s with no issues.

I kept having problems with my LRS’s… I had no problems with the M1200’s driving them but still traded the LRS’s for a pair of 1.7i’s. No problem driving these with the BHK250. I love the 1.7i’s!!!

I love my 1.7i’s too. I’m driving them with a BHK 250. Am driving my 3.7i’s with a pair of BHK 300 monoblocks.
