Thank you @badbeef, I finally had some time to play with it and got it up and running. For some reason I also had to add power supply to the Matrix then the G1 would see it in the web app as you indicated.
It certainly needs power. Don’t believe the G1’s USB will supply it.
Somewhere else a forum member said that USB power was not good when a digital transport or a streamer feeds their DAC. Edit: the fellow said that managed to cut off the 5v wire from the USB interconnect and the sound improved.
Interesting, my G2 drove my matrix quite happily before I used an external psu

You are right. I got the Farad a few days ago. It’s clearly better than the iFi I was using: higher resolution, more air etc. (it should be better, it’s about 30 times more expensive 
).
But it is definitely thin and bright and needs more break in.
By the way, the iFi is amazing value for money !
