It is pretty hot at first. The Referenz cools down. But depends if you’re running ethernet aftermarket cords. Much mellower all inukustik cords.
Thanks. Not running inakustik ethernet since I don’t stream, but use neotech almost exclusively everywhere else so hopefully they’ll balance each other out.
@flowcharts I think you’ll love the Inakustik USB. It has never held my system back and gives more and more. Every other cable upgrade it just does no wrong, and let’s the Dragon HDMI do its thing out of the Matrix.
Please share your thoughts on it.
I noticed your post about white noise with DSD. You must have the audio on your server to maximum (100) and control the volume with your pre-amplifier when streaming DSD via the Matrix. Even 99 will give you white noise. I use Roon with a Nucleus+
Hi that was brought to my attention but in my case it was set to 100% thanks though!
Oh, sorry to repeat then. I missed that. Strange then, but sounds like it is a related issue. If you go for Hermes, (future) Octave or other, please let us know your impressions. Merry Christmas!
I bought a Gaia and it’s a lovely piece of gear but it’s unusable with native DSD.
Does the matrix work with DSD now? Or is it too an issue?
My Matrix works fine with DSD…
Okay, the essence of my problem is is native DSD when passed on by Roon becomes artifacted with white noise. Whether through a DDC like my Matrix or my Gaia. Nothing that’s native DSD will survive without noise. The problem is with the Roon support people who move at their own speed. I made no changes to Roon. The failure occurred after additional files were added to a drive. I subsequently updated to the new 1.8. Hoping that would solve the issue. I even built a windows server and that has the same problem. Direct usb gives me DoP which I’m using but I’m frustrated and annoyed that I can’t use a new Gaia and I was falsely convinced my Matrix had failed. Right now I wish that PS Audio had their endpoint as I’d buy it. There’s something in Roon that is causing this and my manifestation is different than other instances of DSD and noise.
I am using a Matrix with Roon and have no problem with native DSD.
+1 here. Roon on Nucleus+ > USB > Matrix X-PDIF2 > I2S > DS DAC (perfectly play DSD 64, 128, 256)
I would start by turning off Roon DSP. Then check DSP settings one by one.
Also, I would check the cables.
Exactly my setup: Roon on Nuc+ > USB > Matrix > I2S > DSD. No issues with native DSD.
The problem was never one with the Matrix. The problem I had, was a failed Matrix. It doesn’t pass a native DSD signal. Everything else is perfect. All of the PCM bitrates and Frequencies were perfect. It decided to boycott DSD. I’m going to to reach out to them after the holidays about a repair. The Gaia is a worthy replacement though.
Did you change Matrix dip switches accordingly to native and dop ? There is no sound in my setup If they are not correctly set to match incoming signal.
Native DSD works perfect here and sounds awesome.
My Gaia is working with DSD now. The problem with the Matrix is the limited information available regarding it’s performance on a display combined wth a new ROON update that caused me some grief. All is well with the Gaia there’s actually 3 modes that pass a DSD signal on the Gaia.
Only one mode will work correctly without channel swap or phase issues.
I’d agree I only mentioned that they pass a DSD signal.
