Inspiration for the Krell audio brand…and this “kid’s” libido.
What a pisser! Added to my playlist. This is bound to turn a frown upside down!
Just cued it up in the background while surfing the forum:
Listening through the lowly iMac speakers.
Hope you enjoy it.
A bit too calming late in the evening…made me sleepy…
But, I enjoyed the vibe of several tracks.
Thanks.
I mean, seriously, my dad probably didn’t buy this one for the music…
I remember playing it when I was a kidlet, and I managed to find it among some of the records in storage. Mono copy. I see it’s been reissued. I have a digital copy of it but it sounds like it’s had a smiley-face EQ applied, and noise reduction, so…
But here’s something a little more modern, that reaches back to the past. This album is constructed with a lot of samples, and Nicola Conte (both a jazz musician and DJ) sounds like he raided our dad’s record collections. This is the official album, although it was also released in other countries (including the US) as Bossa Per Due with a different cover. Definitely lounge, and some sound like outtakes from a 60s spy film. Fun!
The track “Bossa Per Due” was used in the US for a television commercial for the Acura CL.
Good find! Definitely the roots of “Bossa Per Due.”
Two that I identified right off the bat were “The In Samba,” the guitar riff based on the Stan Getz/Cal Tjader track “Ginza Samba.”
“Mambo de los Dandies” is a sped-up sample of the intro to “Mambo Parisienne,” from Henry Mancini’s soundtrack for the film Charade.
I don’t know if it’s a sample, or just a very similar melody, but the melody for “Il Cerchio Rosso” is almost a note-for-note copy of “Estrada Branca” (a Jobim/de Moraes track that also appears on the Sinatra/Jobim track “This Happy Madness”).
It’s so difficult to tell if some of the music on Conte’s album is sampled (like the Mancini track–I’ve heard that percussion riff since I was three years old and it’s unmistakable), or a very well-performed facsimile by Conte and his band.
Just ordered a copy of Bosse Per Due…never knew it existed.
I remember the Acura spots and wondered how they changed Bert Kaempfert’s version.
Really have enjoyed your articles in Copper btw.
Thanks! It’s good to know at least one person is reading my shtuff.
Following up with Martin Denny Latin Village, a most fine cocktail accompaniment.
Lost Lake was an absolute jewel of a bar. So sad to see it gone.
