Modding and Tweaking the Theoretica BACCH4MAC

Powering Baby Face FS with LPS also takes load off Mini USB 5 volt Power opening up sound and changes Bacchfilter binaural microphone filter. As does inproving to an audiophile USB cable like Inakustk Referenz USB available from SGC.

I made a important discovery tonight.

The Bacch Binauaral transfer function update kills this AB7050HF tweak.

You have to remove it di measurements then replace it afterwards. Its placement is extremely sensitive. Apparently the canned DSP for BACH removes too much bass for my taste. It sucks out the life the absorber adds.

Temp removed then replace adds back the magic.

Its like this hobby can’t get more difficult to perfect. WTF?

Add an M1 fuse and a tuning ring on the cables then the real magic happens.

That’s 90 percent. The next 9 are Bacch-dsp an tweaks. But no matter what. The elusive 1 percent is always sideways and backwards anyway you slice it. I guess we all like different.

Interesting thread. I just received a new Mac Studio M2 Ultra for my video editing/grading system. It replaced a 2013 trashcan Mac Pro. I also use this mac (in another room) to run Jriver, and send to DS MKii via optical USB. (Previously was using ethernet to MKI/bridge II)

I noticed the sound was better using the new Mac as a server.

1- is there a linear power supply upgrade for the Studio? I can’t seem to find one listed.

2- any suggestions for using the 3M material for the studio?

I’m using the Ubacch plug in with Jriver in trial mode. I listened to a binaural recording last night Exploration of Time and Space with Lenny White, called Stank, and another sparse percussive track that was incredible.

It appears not to have a removable SMS module. I would try absorber over the M2 chip similar to mini placement. Also place some across area wher big ribbon cable is close to top lid so it covers all the conductors.

@Vmax thanks. Are you suggesting external, or open the Ultra and place inside?

I would try placing only external. On my unit is is extremely size and location dependent If it is too large or misplaced the improvement difference is slight. My curious puppy took my temporary placed piece and it went missing so I had to cut and place another. It ended up being a time consuming task to trim it to appropriate size and place it properly listening for differences even when I had a photo documenting original. .

Plus fact that disassembly to get to top of board is not simple in your unit.

What is the best Mac for this application? Just getting started and don’t want to go too far down the rabbit hole.
Any suggestions as to where to start?

Welcome!

I would go with M-1 or M-2 Mini. The m-1 is now out of production so I get an M-2 with 16gB ram and at leat a 512MB drive the base M-2 is slower than the M-1 until you bunp up its drive size despite having a faster processor.

@Allears Definitely at least 16GB RAM. Could also be an M1 if they are still available or if you want to save on investment by getting one on eBay. With the latest BACCH4Mac software that came out this month, I have for the first time seen more than 16GB of RAM in use, including base system and cached files in addition to running apps (i.e., BACCH4Mac). I actually went with an older Intel-based 2018 Mac Mini, thinking that I might like to dual-boot into Windows. It also gave me a cheap route to 32GB of RAM. But what I was thinking to use in Windows mode did not work out. I would have been fine with a dedicated 16GB M1 for BACCH4Mac instead. And that would have meant that I could have used the same linear power supply that I have that @Vmax uses with his M1. But because I have a power-hungry Intel-based 2018 Mac Mini, I had to order a higher-power dedicated LPS just to get my Mac Mini to start. Note: We modded our Mac Mini’s to use the TeraDak LPS module, removing the Apple SMPS. My understanding is that this will work for an M2 as well, but not for a more powerful / newer Mac.

How many filters can BACCH4MAC hold?
Do you have to use a monitor with it or can you iPad control it like mine?

There are just three bins onscreen to the right of bypass. Though you can offload workspaces to separate files and reimport them. Three works for me. I have u-BACCH in the first one just for demonstration purposes. Bin 2 is windows closed. Bin 3 is windows open. Works for me.

I do use a 65-inch screen. There is a lot on there. One can use MacOS Continuity to mirror onto an iPad though. I suppose that would work well enough for the main BACCH screen on the left with the bins. I understand that Bluetooth and WiFi need to be on on the Mac though for this to work. I have them off.

Three won’t do at all. I want 25. I have different moods.
I don’t have any monitor of any sort on my system. Video is another system in another room.

I was just thinking if I had the 4Mac version I could buy a new mini every year if a nice processor upgrade was involved. They seem to do that a lot. And for what they cost who cares? But with my BACCH-SP adio if I want to upgrade the processor I have to wait and pay a lot more. Bah.

The apple magic mouse and feeding HDMI to a big screen is the bomb to contro Bacch4Mac and Roon. I also use apple Key board. I have my Roon database on my sonic transporter. But if you launch roon full on imac you can use that for same video display as full roon it is better than mirror of ipad screen or iphone screen in that-edges of display don’t show as black strips.

A apple Magic Keyboard is used for login. I then navigate roon by iphone to selct songs. Only use magic mouse fot creating bacch filters. One swipe on magic mouse touch pad lets you jump from bacch ad roon screens. Full screen album art and lyrics beats lookind down at ipad or reading album notes.

I have really grown attached to the control system on the dedicated iPad. So many pages chock full of interesting options. The only Apple device I want to use is the iPad. I have several of them so I don’t have to carry them from room to room. Otherwise bah to Apple!
I bought an Apple MacBook to run Audirvana. But I didn’t like the program so now it sits in it’s box. I really enjoy not liking Apple. I wish more people felt the same.
