New BHK pre-amp...wow

Well…i think you’re going to enjoy the Aesthetix. i sure did. And, ya never know, I may go back there - but really curious how the BHK stacks up. I’m hoping it it will add some symmetry to my system, with he DSD and P10. And looking forward to having a good headphone amp as well. Why are you switching from the BHK to the Janus? Sully.

I believe he mentioned he wanted a phono stage in a one box solution and was experiencing some noise issues from the BHK

The Rhea and Calypso (Janus) is a killer piece of gear…

thanks J2213. it sure is a killer piece of gear!

Yes the trigger on the P-20 will turn on your amp. the trigger follow the display when you put the P-20 or P-10 in standby mode it turns off the amp.

Awesome. I’ll set it up tomorrow that way. Sound have the Janus on Tuesday.

For now, I plan to keep the BHK preamp as well. But I may decide to sell it.

Brodric, as an end user looking for higher SQ and researching the BHK without the luxury of listening, and then months of deliberating (because I am an incessant DSD volume surfer) then finally deciding to give it a try, once connected, the slight sound of the BHK volume control is not only barely audible, the volume control, as Bascom said himself, is superior, which i found to be true. Anyone could live with the DSD direct to amps, but the BHK brings system coherency, detail retrieval and emotional transfer and has a slight resistance purring of the volume control… with 30 hours in, and XLR from BHKpre to amps, and RCA from BHKpre to Linn Sekrit Ceiling speakers, not only did my SQ improve, the balanced sound is highly holographic making even rebook cd rips sound phenomenal. ps. You can set the BHKpre volume and use the DSD volume if you prefer

After I get the Janus all burned in nicely, I was think of sending it in to get the Signature upgrade.

Ah, heck…just go straight to the Eclipse…
Seriously, live with it for awhile, if your not loving it or you are seeing “hearing” unacceptable noise…do some tube rolling before factory upgrade. Lots of Calypso tube threads out on various forums!

When I had my Calypso, it came to me as a signature so I can’t speak to how big of an improvement in sound quality the upgrade provides

Shameless plug for my recently acquired Allnic pre, this thing exudes quality and sounds really good!

Easy to say, but the Eclipse upgrade is 6500 bucks!

Honestly, when I upgraded my Calypso to Signature, the difference was minor; far less than, for example, upgrading cables.

Interesting. I don’t think i’d spend 6500 dollars to upgrade a 7000 piece of gear. Seems oddly overpriced.

I doubt I’d upgrade at all to be honest. Seems like a waste

I meant “straight to Eclipse” as a joke, sorry if it did not come across that way…

No worries. I’d love to, but boy it’s a tad steep.

The Janus out of the box is nice. Sounds clean, smooth. I was told the unit needs 200-300 hrs of break in. So it will be playing for the next 2-3 weeks 24/7. The low range will slowly start to surface with time. The bass is a tad laid back right now. No mosfets. LOL

So far I can say it sounds a bit different than the BHK. More tube sound ( which I love personally). I still do love my BHK preamp. I may set it to use two preamps, swap depending on mood. I have yet to try the phono stage. That will be this weekend.

My Calypso took at least that long to fully bloom. It went from really nice to sublime.

:sunglasses:

Really digging the Janus so far! It’s dead quite when it’s supposed to be!

RonP what are you using now?
