Indubitably.
My DSD sr. has been in the burn-in process now for almost 2 weeks. It is difficult for me to evaluate the sound. Sometimes it delights. Sometimes itâs ok. However there are too many variables that influence my listening experience. Type of music, source quality etc and time of day, my moods and what I am drinking. They all make a difference. This coming weekend, I intend to do some serious âobjectiveâ listening. Aim is do a comparison between the DSD sr. and the SGCD using the same source material.
At some point it will get REALLY crappyâŚbut donât worry it will get better betterâŚcrappy again, then better better âŚBOOM
HmmmmâŚwell native DSD will sound alot better than Redbook regardless of the brochure.
And streaming through Roon upsampled to DSD.
I would get Roon ready, and maybe download a couple DSD files.
Just so it lands on the better. I too am dealing with multiple variables, different music etc. I tend to agree with Sohailsâ comments that the sound has varied from very good to meh⌠It just needs time. On a different system I was breaking in a new integrated amp, and it got downright nasty sounding between 125 and 250 hours. I was breaking it in with FM radio white noise at night, and FM radio during the day. Running it continuously for a month. Sounds fantastic now.
Get snowmass 3.00 as long as your bridge is up to latest bridge update.
There is quite alot of discussion on the boards.
PSA swears there is no sq differenceâŚWrong!
Like I said beforeâŚmine sounded so bad I was almost in tearsâŚthe break in will blow you away
Took mine 46 days to break in 24/7
@tonydennison:
At this point Iâm a little reluctant to change firmware until the DAC has more hours on it and is broken in. However, your suggestion is tempting. If you donât mind could you share with us your impressions (Pros and Cons) of Snowmass 3.0 versus 3.06. Kind of a Sergio Leone version, if you know what I mean, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
The 306 to me sounded too spicy, less anolog like which is what I like about the DS Dac. (anolog I meanâŚcame from vinyl)
I run tube pre- and tube-amps too.
300 sound more real to me.
306 maybe a bit cold (but not in bass), just cold. Analytical, spicy, too hot.
Maybe its my system.
I would just feel something was wrong, then put 300 on and I was like yeah.
nothing bad or ugly at all.
THe Good, The Bad and The Ugly was more of a euphemism for what you do and donât like, and maybe the one aspect that well just did sit right with you. To me we are still spliiting sonic hairs. The PS Audio DSD DAC still souds great. As others before us have indicated, there is always room for optimizing it, be it burn in, favored firmware, input cables, Power Cords or Power Regeneration. I do get the tube thing as well. My preferred system is analog based with tubes driving some of Arnie Nudellâs speakers, Genesis Vâs.
I got the refâŚnothing bad or ugly that i found with snowmass 300
LOLâŚchuckle!!
There is a thread about 3.06 vs 3.0,3.5 etc. I for one like 3.06 because it has higher resolution, better dynamics, and less noise, but unfortunately it is a bit harsher in the mids. 3.0 is unrealistically wide, has better bass, more noise, distortion, and compressed dynamics, but that also a more vibrant, colorful sound.
Probably a moot point since the new update will be here soon.
WellâŚi NEVER
Thanks, that may also help explain what I am hearing during the burn in process.
All in fun. I find improvement comes by seekin the bad and the ugly as well as the Good.
I thuroughly agree but Im perfectly happy with the 300
When is the new update expected?
