Thank you. This is what I’m saying, basically. I love it otherwise - it is much better than the old forum software in most respects.
Xenforo forum software handles quoting in a way that does not make posts overly long yet still provides all the context a responder wants to include. It is also much easier to track new posts and mark posts read.
We have had bet few complaints, but those who are unhappy are vocal. Nothing wrong with this. And none have been blown off; I carefully respond to each, whether here or in a PM. But I do not necessarily share the other’s angst when I receive a complaint.
Often all I can do is explain how the forum works, such as not being able to put threads on ignore. (E.g., I would love to not be shown the car and watch threads but it is easy to skip past them.)
I push the limited quoting as it works brilliantly and so many have indicated they adore the clean threads. No matter what choices are made some will be unhappy. Unfortunately.
There are things I would like to be different, but I did not program the software. I thus embrace it for what it is and work with it. On is own terms it is exceedingly effective.
Beef, you should have no problem understanding the context of a post by clicking on the little arrow. This is the same as a full quote. Does this not work?
And yes, Speed, we know Xenforo is better than sex. Paul has already indicated he will check it out when he again looks at forum software. In the meantime, let’s make the best with what we have.
yeah - it’s OK, just different. Scrolling down the page without arrow-clicking, particularly if you haven’t been keeping up, or there were 60 responses overnight, is a very different experience than say, Pauls Posts, where you can see the hierarchy of replies and subthreads. Not that I would want that here. Like I said, just different. I’ll cope. : )
It is different. All methods have their drawbacks.
